Going to order online soon unless someone has something to get rid of. Tell me what you have, condition and price.

Thanks
Tom

Just accepted the offer, will definitely renew in the fall.  Great organization.

Unless you pack all of your caloric needs for trans-Iowa you should do rides to near bonk and then stop at a gas station and eat from what you can find. Iowa has many Casey's and Kum-n-Go's. So think, granola bars, some small selection of nutrition bars, donuts, pizza, maybe some pre-package sandwiches.

You don't want to be used to unusual or hi-tech food and then not have it available.

What bike/frame and what fork?  Maybe the oddity is somewhere in the mix of those two parts?

I install an older carbon fork onto my El Mariachi each winter and ride it on the gravel roads extensively.  I notice no real difference.

Maybe the axle to crown measurement was way different from what you normally run?

Check out Google Maps satellite view - there is a gas station/convenience store in Ferndale 1 mile off route to the East (instead of turning right at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, continue straight.)
Thanks! I knew I had driven past something in that area just last summer. I had thought it was at the same intersection as the church.

Montana route/re-supply question:

Whitefish/Columbia Falls are obviously good re-supply spots. But 30 miles later is a big section with not much until Seeley Lake. I did notice a cafe and gas station as you cross Hwy 83, but Ferndale didn't appear to have anything.  Did people go off-route to Bigfork for any supplies?

Not racing this year, but grew up in that area and will tour that section this fall.  Border to Seeley Lake and backtrack to Columbia Falls.  Slower tour so I'm looking for more supplies than a standard racer.

I've wondered if people just lay the hydration bag into/onto whatever is in the frame bag as well.

I just received my Revelate frame bag (Salsa version) and was half expecting to see a loop, or hook to hang the hydration bag from.

When fully packed this is not as much of an issue, but for long gravel rides with little packed, this could be useful.

As someone that grew up in Columbia Falls, MT (near Whitefish, and on the route); you should never had to worry about the lack of food in these areas. Montana is a popular tourist destination during the summer and from the border south to Butte and beyond is a popular driving route.  So places like Seeley Lake might seem out of the way to most of you, but they are prepared to support much more than the TD riders.  I'd be highly surprised if you couldn't find something that would work.

Howdy!  I'm Tom and I grew up in Columbia Falls, MT, not far from the GDMTB route.  Watching the race/blue dots has given me the bug.  1st bag is on order and spreadsheets of gear have been started.  I plan to head out for a week of testing from Eureka to Seeley Lake (or further) late summer of 2014.  From there.....who know?

I used to travel a lot 60-75% and never really figured it out.  But, if I went back to the travel gig, I'd either buy a BikeFriday(.com?) or get a membership to a nationwide gym so I'd have access to Spin classes and such.

For the bike friday, I've ridden one for a few days.  Nice bikes, but I'd go for the bomb proof model and not the road model.  Maybe used if I could find it.
