I have a photo of Hal and another rider (name escapes me; my apologies) at the Grand Depart in Banff in 2015. I was too much in awe/intimidated to approach him for a chat, but he continues to be an inspiration and a true hero for those of us who feel our best may be behind us. Perhaps it's not.
And I'll be surprised if this is his last TD, doctor's orders or not...
Thats right Hal, Might be time for a new Doc #GezzerPower

We can remove a lot of these unknowns with a group of ITTs this Oct. I'm up for a 800. I bet talking it up we could get quite a few 3s & 8s on or about the same time. Thursdays fall on the 3ed & the 10th of Oct this year.

2020 AZTR & beyond: 4th Thursday in October. So, October 22nd, 2020. Again, ITT's are welcome ANYTIME and encouraged!!
Opinions went back & forth but John seems firm & clear.

Nope got do a full AZTR so as not to feel like a need to do a GDR that I don't have the time or $$$ for. This years crash was just out of KY camp w/ a ride to SV ER so point taken. If I really wanted to skip 4 Peaks I 'could' restart from KY camp, but a 800 this fall or next years group start is more like what I have in mind. After all, anyone with 1/2 a functioning brain would think after crashing out twice is enough of a hint not to test what the third time had instore.

downside for desert dwellers is that October is the beginning of our riding season. Really tough to stay in the kind of shape needed for this during the AZ summer. So, we give up our advantage of riding all winter to be in shape for April.
Turnabout from the usual Hillbillies vs Flatlander season scheduling. The upside is you got 800 mi to ride yourself into shape Jeff 😉

I'm hoping a few individuals give it a whirl in October '19. Again, no interest what-so-ever to pull together a second Grand Depart this year. I guess I'll need to have an updated track before too long for any ITT hopefuls. I'll also be updating me elevation profile poster. So an October ITT would have the current 4 peaks option as mandatory?

Some of his segments were 7 to 9 mph. So he is probably just walking all uphills with his singlespeed
Yeah, I saw he's rolling again & deleted my post. Forgot he's Ssp. I can guess it's tuff to mash the cranks after that hike.

His last spot was about 1 hour from the top of the North Rim at 7 days 17 hours, and he finished in 8 days 0 hours. So he after assembling his bike had about 5 hours from the top of the Rim to the Border.
Had to detour, No way to posthole that time.

Because the spot went away on the North Rim we're not gonna know for sure without a gpx track, but I'll bet Hanoch Redlich also didn't avail himself of the snow detour to Jacobs Lake. That's a feat we tend to lionize racers for accomplishing.

I really hope Max tries to get to the turn and pushes on out to picketpost tonight. Tomorrow is shaping up to be a scorcher. He's making good progress along the Gila right now.
Max told me he wants to attempt the triple crown this year (tuff call as the CTR is the northbound hard way this year) barring that he'd like to complete the AZTR & CTR this year so as to have finished all of the triple crown. Point is slow & steady, git her done is gonna be his pace.

PS I'm getting hand surgery 1/4 mi from Buffalo Park this afternoon & my designated driver will be riding there. He'll be telling peeps about the reroute/closure.

Is Trackleaders showing the closure on the route? He started the thread "AZTR baby" & I responded to the where's the gpx file question with "GPX files are at: https://aztrail.home.blog/route-gpx/ as unexpected reroutes crop up keep an eye on the prep-planing forum for last minute gpx changes." Did I steer him wrong?

Has anyone heard from Crazy Mike? I've heard through the grapevine he crashed hard and messed himself up pretty bad. Last tracking at KC. Wondering if he's really still there, or if someone possibly drove in to get him. Hoping he's okay!
Yup, a WWF worthy pile driver when bungee went into front spokes. Maybe that's not the optimum method for transporting camp flipflops 😉 Strava said it was at 17.8 mph. broken left hand is the worst of it, as bad as my face looked it didn't need stichs. A copule of drops of super glue closed it up
