Speaking of ITT's... Bradley Wiggins just broke the hour record on the track today in London. 54.526 km in one hour, (or 33.88mph)
This has absolutely nothing to do with bikepacking, but it's a very impressive feat on a bicycle.

Hi Andie, Most of the travel discussed here is off pavement/dirt/gravel/single track types of touring. Though I know many here have toured extensively on the road as well. I'm not aware of a continuous off-pavement route from BC to SD.
Here are a few quick resources just in case you're unaware of them:
- Adventure Cycling Association, (ACA): Detailed, cycling specific maps of the Pacific Coast Route and many other routes. - ACA's internet forums on bicycle travel. - Crazyguyonabike.com - Excellent resource for bicycle travel throughout the world. - A google search of books on cycling the Pacific Coast. There are many available.
Best of luck to you on your trip.

There is a long term parking area near the visitor center. I believe you need to check in at the visitor center and get a pass to park there. The lot is maybe a quarter mile (or less) from the visitor center if my memory is correct. It's a short ride to the Shafer turn off.

He probably got sick and tired of the all the cheap shots he took from a few of those who didn't see eye to eye with him. Unfortunately the relative anonymity of the web can lend itself to rude and contemptuous behavior. But Toby always seemed to keep his cool even when he was getting verbally pummeled by other forum members.
I think we'd all get along much better if we were forced to sit at a table and speak face to face over a beer or a cup of coffee.

I'm not involved with this event. I just passed on the info because I thought there might be some interest here. Unfortunately I don't have any further details about the route that isn't available in the link.
I have done a lot of riding in some of the areas this route will visit. It's an incredibly beautiful region with a wide variety of terrain.

http://www.boure.com/8604-14.htmlI'm (almost) embarrassed to say that I went for a spin today in 80 degree temps. It was so nice that I wore the jersey above for some sun protection. A very comfortable jersey. Very light and airy. The jersey is a viable alternative to sun sleeves/arm coolers. edit: I say "embarrassed" cuz I know so many of my fellow cyclists are still firmly in the grips of Old Man Winter. Hang in there, spring is near!

The last time I traveled through Southern Utah, (St.George, Hurricane, etc.) I saw some reasonably priced homes for sale. And if you're a condo person - there were lots of affordable ones to choose from. Don't know if it would fit your employment needs but there's tons of great riding and other outdoor activities there. It's mostly red rock desert with mountains close by. Hot summers and relatively mild winters. Awesome spring and fall weather. Very pretty area.
