This is very much on my bucket list.  So is the Tour Divide, CT, more road touring through Europe, touring through S. America, etc...Thank goodness I'm only 30!

That's true.  Maybe he should repost his original trip on here for all to see.  I remember the first time I read it.  Blew me away.  Talk about guts.  Man...

no matter how often 'conflict of interest' is asserted by the 'outside world', any self-supported, multi-day MTB race organizer worth his/her salt leads by example (at least on the 'inaugural').

That's a call out if I've ever seen one!  Man, what a monster.  My heart beats faster just thinking of it.

And another link.  I guess the first one was our original trip, and this one a different one (video)...

Hope that helps.  I'm wanting to go back up there in the spring for a quick weekender.

Here is a link to a video that I made of one of our trips.  It's just raw footage but you'll get the point...

Wow, I was just about to start the exact same thread today.  Awesome.  My question is...How many pieces are actually sewn together?  I see 2 main panels, but is there a strip of fabric for the TT, DT, and ST that bring them together?

That's weird, I did the search at work and pulled up a bunch, now that I'm at home I'm not pulling anything up.  Let me see what I can find for you, but if you have any questions just post up.  I've done 2 multi days on the Womble and the Ouachita combined.  Both were great trips.  I think the Womble is a perfect trail to get things dialed in.

I figured as much.  If/when I get a chance to try the TD I'll probably go stoveless, or maybe a small cat can stove for just in case (but unlikely).

actually I just did a search.  Type in "Arkansas" and you'll get more hits.

There has been a few of us on here that have done some overnighters/multiday stuff on the Womble and the Ouachita Trail.  Search "ouachita" and I bet you'll find them.  Otherwise post up a specific question and we'll help as much as possible.

What I'd like to know is how many finishers went stove free vs not.  Or, what was the comparison of those that carried stoves and those that didn't.  Joe put up a little video on his blog with his "how to" coffee thing, but was this even used and if so how often during the journey?

Sorry, shouldn't have posted that in this thread.  Like Joe said, let's stay on topic.

I hate giving bad press but I've had the same issue.  As someone who has a seatpack and a handlebar bag and has recommended him to many people around here, I was somewhat upset that even I didn't get a call back for a frame bag after leaving a message and waiting patiently for him to reply.  I finally just gave up.  I'll be either making my own or going with Eric.  Eric has been great to chat with over email the few times I've asked him questions.

Awesome.  Thanks for the search.  Give us a heads up when you get it updated!

I tried my best to read it.  My eyes were crossed by the time I got to the first page.  I just couldn't finish it.  Looks like a good read...

I need to order a couple of these.  One for under my legs and another for my head.
438  Forums / Question and Answer / Marmot Mica Jacket? on: January 04, 2010, 10:37:32 AM
Anyone used one?  I did a search on Backpackinglight and found a good thread but none of it is very bike specific.  It is so dang light I just have to give it a chance.  Any thoughts?

While those are well built hammocks, I personally think they are to expensive and to heavy for bikepacking.  I would agree, check out the Hammock Forums (hammockforums.net).  That is a great site.  They are VERY helpful on there.  I would recommend a mosquito hammock or a Warbonnet Blackbird before a Clark.  Look around, there are a LOT of hammock makers out there, or you could make one yourself for around $20.  I use a homemade hammock and love it.
