Don't worry - most of it IS gibberish!  Dig up the old Tour Divide Basics thread from (I think) last year for lots of good info.  Once you start down the trail mental attitude matters a lot more than gear.

Closer to home, you could make a nice loop using the Ouachita Trail and the Womble Trail connecting with forest service roads.

Holt, just think, you could go from being the FNG to a seasoned veteran in just 4 long days.
