Not knowing when Paul Attalla started, but it seems (by my math, which could be wrong) he is riding at or near record pace.

Checkout Yama's new single wall cuben fiber shelter. Looks pretty sweet.  http://www.yamamountaingear.com/gear-room/complete-shelters/cirriform-sw .   Gen is a "hardcore" bikepacker he did the Great Divide last year on his unicycle, checkout his blog here. http://www.greatdivideride.com/journal. I have purchased some of his gear and it is top notch.

Welcome, Rachel,

Don't worry - most of it IS gibberish!  Dig up the old Tour Divide Basics thread from (I think) last year for lots of good info.  Once you start down the trail mental attitude matters a lot more than gear.

Bob
Although, less than ideal gear can erode mental attitude.

Closer to home, you could make a nice loop using the Ouachita Trail and the Womble Trail connecting with forest service roads.

Ed, you might consider adding this bivy to your list.

http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=173-

It meets all of my requirements. Weight, breathability, roomy size for extra storage and changing, ease of entry, bug netting, made in USA...
