Read that Imogene Pass is scheduled to open around July 4th.

So can these guys ride/hike/carry their bikes over it if it is officially closed?

On another note, for the mega dot junkies, I've put together a MEGA tracker that includes TD, TABR, ATR and even RAAM.  Pretty cool to see so many people out on huge rides across the country.  Right now it's only updating sporadically -- I have to give it a bit more thought to get it crunching all that data more quickly.

That's awesome looking.
Looks like most paths cross in Colorado.
Great photos Angler..

Jay P is going strong and I see Billy Rice is out for an ITT.

Below Miles are off of MTB project
Not sure what you are stashing, water? Food?

Rabbit valley, ~ 20 miles, easy access right off I-70
Westwater, ~ 40 miles, paved road easy access (maybe stash under railroad bridge)
Not sure if water works at westwater, you could look into that.
Cisco Pump House Rd & Koko ~ 54 miles, easy access
Dewey Bridge ~ 74 miles, easy access or back around 64 miles where you cross 128
Might be better there a lot less people
Filter water just before 94.6 miles in creek (if it's running)
La Sal mtn loop rd ~ 115.7 miles, paved road, easy access or anywhere from there to Upper Porcupine TH 123.9 mile, 99% paved and good gravel section around TR.
I've  done it the way the GPS track has it taking Sand Flats rd. That being said, lots of people take the upper porcupine singletrack down to 128 then into town. Not sure I'd do it with a loaded bike, but I'm old...
Lots of driving, but could hit most of them in a day and with 2WD vehicle. Not sure you would need to hit all of the above just giving you some thoughts.

I did a trip last year in Cedar Mesa area and I stashed some water (2 gallons) buried in sand and something got in there and ripped them open. Maybe a coyote, not sure.

Have you seen this site?

There has to be a lot of areas just west of you. All through Rampart Range area and dropping down around Pikes peak area.
Ring the peak loop? Might be too high, maybe not.

Last year we had way less snow than this year, so I'd expect an Animas Forks photo taken on 06/29/17 to look a fair bit different, especially in the upper reaches.  Also, Imogene is about 2000' higher than Animas Forks (!).  Could be totally good to go, but I wouldn't bet on it (yet).  Smiley

Yep I agree. I just threw the photos in to wet their appetite Wink

The phone number for the Silveton Chamber on this page is a good one to. Call when it's gets close and they should have a pretty good idea when it might open.

I think this is the most scenic area of Colorado.
FWIW - here is a couple pic of Animas Forks Ghost town area June 29th last year and I believe Cinnamon & Engineer Passes were open.

Afternoon thunderstorms happen with the potential of lots of lightning and nowhere to hid up there.

92  Forums / Routes / Rimrocker Trail ( Montrose to Moab) on: December 22, 2016, 07:14:12 AM
I came across an article in our little paper about starting talk of a trail/dirt roads from Cortez to Montrose:

http://www.cortezjournal.com/article/20161202/NEWS01/161209966/County-explores-creating-backcountry-trail-to-Montrose

And they mentioned Rimrocker trail, which goes from Montrose to Moab. About 160 miles.

 http://www.co.montrose.co.us/701/Rimrocker-Trail

Looks like there is a good gps track for the rimrocker and google it for videos. Videos are from motorcycle dudes. It just opened up last year and it's pretty remote. You could even include the Kokopelli in there as well to add some more miles. Loma to Montrose is about 70 miles away on roads, but with some planning could probably get back to Montrose on secondary and dirt roads to make a big loop.

A friend and I are doing this one at the end of this month. This should be doable in November as well.

Had a bivy - not for me.
Switched to Tarptent Protrail - worked pretty well, but I'm 6'4" and I was always hitting the poles and a couple of times the tent collapsed on me.
Just picked up a BA Fly Creek HV UL 1 - have a 3 night/4 day trip coming up later this month, which will be a good test. I like the fact that the BA is a "semi" free standing tent and with its one long pole it seems more stable.
I didn't know about the Nemo Hornet or I might had looked hard at that one. Looks like a nice tent.
96  Forums / Routes / Looking for an Early Spring 3-5 Day Route on: September 16, 2016, 07:49:21 AM
Hey Gang,
Looking for suggestions for an early (February/March) spring 3-5 day bikepacking trip in the southwest or maybe farther west? Something around 250-400 miles depending on terrain with resupply routes on the way. Thought about the Stagecoach 400 route or Utah Cliff route, but I think the cliff route would be snowed in.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks,
Woody

Edit: I posted in Q&A by mistake...

I hope I didn't miss posts on these topics but I am wondering if anyone knows about Seb Dunne or Rob Brown.  Looks like Rob may have gotten a ride into Helena this morning and Seb seems to be stuck at Holland Lake.  I hope Seb just has a spot issue and is still going.  He had such bad luck last year with his fork, I was hoping he would make it through without problems this year.

Also loved seeing the pics of Hal Russell, he is one of my favorites and his call-ins are always so positive!  Josh's mom is a big fan, Josh jokes that she is rooting for Hal more than Josh. "Green Gloves Guy" looks like he is having a blast as well, does anyone know who he is?

Someone back on page 10 posted Seb is out with an illness

That's a shame...
