81  Forums / Classifieds / Re: Wtb: jones loop bars 25.4mm on: April 30, 2014, 11:12:34 AM
My jones loop bars are 25.4 at the clamp but come with an adapter to 31.8 that says the adapter MUST be used..... not sure if this is correct or not as the model isn't listed any more on their site.

I rode them for about 9000 miles but am now using a different bar.  Pitch me an offer if you really want them and are going to ask Jeff Jones to see if this model can be run directly with 25.4 stems (probably should be fine).

Seriously, what kind of a question is that?!!!
We might need to deduct some man points for even asking the question.

I tried to seam seal a seat bag once with Seam Grip and it was messy and not worth it.  With Dimension Polyant fabrics (X-Pac) I only get minor leaking at the seams, but then again I live in the desert so it doesn't matter often.

*ALREADY TRADED!*

I have an Ergon saddle with about 100 easy commuter miles on it - didn't work for me so I took it off after a week.

Ergon SM3 Pro Tinox Carbon Shell Large Saddle Black

I'm not really needing other saddles at the moment but would consider trades for other bike parts or an extra WTB SST saddle.

87  Forums / Bikepacking / Wild Horses, Rainbows, and an old beat up frame bag on: October 11, 2013, 08:55:28 AM
A couple weeks ago I just had to get out after a long week in school....

So I rode pavement and dirt to the closest big hill, then trail ran the hill, chasing wild horses the entire way.

Once I was back on the bike, a little storm blew through with a double rainbow that made a complete 18
0 degree arc.

There wasn't a pot of gold at the end, but there was an old, beat up frame bag!

I have homemade pogies and other winter gloves but haven't yet found a good option.  Even on a 3 mile commute my hands have gotten rather cold below 10 F.

those look like really good winter gloves.  I'd be tempted if I did more than a 3 mile commute with a relatively mild winter...

The geometry works fine.  For general riding I prefer a normal suspension fork, but the fat front is fun to goof around with.  Probably if I had a Larry tire on a wider rim, I'd like it better, but its still a little goofy and really limited on snow since the back tire is still skinny.  The fat front tire does markedly improve handling in soft conditions though.

You could fit one fine on a Lefty.  We can just get the right diameter P clamps and it should go together just like a normal two legged fork.

it has non-sliding dropouts.
93  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Soma Juice? on: July 15, 2013, 05:01:28 PM
I commuted on a Soma Juice (Tange Prestige tubing) for about 500 miles until it developed what looked like hairline cracks at the tips of the gusset at the DT/HT junction......
I sanded off the paint in that area and there isn't a visible crack - yet.

want it cheap?

That's a great deal on a great machine that I already have.
One of these days I'll get around to cutting a hole in my sewing table for the machine to sit inside.

I always cut off the zipper pull and put on cord for bar bags and top tube bags so they don't jingle the entire ride.  Frame bag zippers don't jingle for some reason.

98  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Re: Tactical Holster_Riding with a handgun on: January 29, 2013, 04:49:12 PM
For bears, a large-caliber revolver is the most practical with a 4" or longer barrel (if you are choosing this over/in addition to bear spray), so bag size becomes a consideration in terms of placement.
Take your 44 Magnum revolver and your favorite holster.  Drill it out appropriately and bolt it onto your Salsa fork with some big fender washers....

Looks fun!  I'm yet another old white man clinging to my guns and religion, so plan on sewing up some sort of frame bag carry solution too.  Part of me thinks that waist carry is still the best option, but for a long ride that could get uncomfortable.
100  Forums / Classifieds / Re: The Everything Bag - carry stuff on your Salsa fork. on: January 20, 2013, 04:20:07 PM
I got in an order of P Clamps and am testing them on the suspension fork now.  So far so good.  Here's some pictures:

If anyone else wants to enroll in the test dummy program, its $50 per bag, and an extra $10 per bag if you want P clamps along with it.
I've found 1 inch p clamps at the local hardware store, but nothing bigger... my susp fork needed 1.5 inch clamps.
Now for all us desert rats looking to haul a lot of extra water - just get the extra tall 48 oz Nalgenes and put them in Everything Bags - an extra 96 oz of water along!
