This place has always been amazing - sad that the discussion has moved on mostly to other platforms. There is still so much to learn here and the discussions involving the "OGs" here is like gold for those who find it.

Has Rod pulled the pin? He seems to be heading back down Beeline to Phx. I hope not, kinda hoping his zero rejuvenated body and enthusiasm.
On another note, I just rode 89 to Schulz tank and down the Azt (Schulz creek), that trail is beautiful. It is kinda cold up here and some ground is already frozen in the shade. Can imagine north rim to JL will be chilly overnight.
I heard from John that he was having tire issues... a slow leak that he couldn't figure out so he is heading into fountain hills to get a bike shop to sort it out.

Looks like next place on route is MalWart in Payson
Yeah, you are gonna want to go offroute into AJ - there are options there and not too terribly off route. Ana made a visit to an option earlier in her ride...

Any where to get chain lube in Gold Canyon?
You are likely going to need to get creative with lubrication in order to get you into Apache Junction proper to get proper chain lube as far as I know...

Hopefully he only lost about an hour, I don't know how to tell if he's on record pace or not.
Current record holder Nate tracked in Payson at 5:05:24 while Jefe tracked there at 5:04:45. So neck and neck...

Jefe missed the turn to dirt around Rye. Easy to do depending on the color of the track on your GPS. I know when I went through, the color of the HWY and the track I was following was essentially the same. Hope he figures it out soon....
He figured it out. At least at was a downhill back to the course

Did Dustin Foudrey go the wrong way? I thought he was doing the green line?
Yeah looks like he is following the normal NB routing. Could be he is on a time constraint, is just tired or is trying to avoid any issues with the road construction happening on AZ88. Guess we will find out eventually.

Alex is doing the single track of the Lemmon Drop in the up hill direction, part of a small group all single speeders. Ana is using the hwy as is standard.
While the trail silly hard it's likely safer.
Super crazy that there were multiple people crazy enough to take the Lemmon Drop. I see your point about being "safer" but man I would take cars on the HWY all day rather than push up that. Haha. I have never felt too sketched out by traffic on Lemmon to be honest. Good shoulder for the most part as you know and bike traffic is pretty normal and expected up there.

The red line on trackleaders is the wilderness bypass route that some of the crazy folks are doing instead of the hwy climb. It is not the official race route, but it is AZT. IUt wasn't originally showing on trackleaders, but I would guess Scott added it on to allow people to see progress on this (hopefully) optional alternative up Lemmon.

I got a trackleaders confirmation. Would that be the ?confirmation??
I'm pretty sure that yes, that is the case. I see you on TL in the 300 grand depart so I would consider yourself good. @schillingsworth ... this "did I get a place in the GD?" question might be good for the FAQ?

Curious how registrants for the AZT300-800 hear whether they made the first 60 cut.
As of this morning, there were still 12 grand depart slots remaining, so anybody who wants/wanted in can still get a spot in the GD. I'm not positive, but I think that people trying to register got confirmation relatively quickly of their status.

Speaking of navigation, I?m thinking of doing my first AZT300 attempt navigating from my Garmin Fenix 6x solar watch. I?ve used it for other bikepacking trips. Any thoughts out there?
Haven't used a watch before, my immediate thoughts is that having to take a hand off the bars to check the route would be kinda annoying. Not an issue in a lot of cases I am sure, but I always tend to check my position on the track especially when going downhill just to make sure I am not off track and needing to go back up if I made a mistake. Fairly easy to glance at the bar mounted unit to double check myself. taking a hand off the bars to do that would be less than ideal for me.

when using an ETREX 30x I could divide up the 140,000+ point track into 15 ~9400 point tracks and display them one at at time (like at had to with much smaller tracks for my old Map62) will this slow my ETREX down too much? with the 10,000 point track, last time there was many times there would be a straight line displayed but more than one choice on the ground that did not correspond to the gpx. line
I have no idea if it would slow it down - never tried that. Honestly though in my experience following the trail was never too difficult with a 10k point track. I guess there are some places where it can be a bit more difficult like the area between tiger mine and antelope peak where there are some cattle trails that can be a bit weird especially at night. I lost the trail heading down boulder creek at night but I don't even know if a better track would have helped. I hate to state the obvious but are you zoomed in far enough on the track when navigating? to the 200ft level? I've accidentally tweaked this mid-ride and then end up changing it back when I noticed turns being harder to navigate. Other than that, maybe you could split the difference and maybe make two tracks. One for the southern half and one for the northern. Then still use the 10k point cutoff. That would effectively get you double the resolution which would help I suppose.

Speaking of Wx I just added a direct doppler radar layer to the CTR tracker. Just in time. Heh Heh.
Some years ago we had one, and then Windy had a rain *forecast* layer, but that went away recently. I'm decently happy with this one so far, even on mobile.
Ooh, I like it. Thanks Scott!
