It's an unexpensive starter though...
2  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Do travel, need bike KARATE MONKEY? on: May 19, 2016, 10:36:07 AM
Hey,

Before spending 500 to 800$ on a brand new frameset (aiming at KM, or crosscheck), would you know another option out there that is not 3.5kg?

Seriously, 500€ is half the price of a titanium frame (say pickenflick)

I mean the cross check is 4.8pds (2.3kg) and the fork is 2.6pounds (1.2kg)

I think I'll stick to the surly if can't find a lighter option out there, I really need the horizontal drop outs combined with derailleur hanger. V brakes and big tyres are cool too ^^

Hey,

Can you find the file you need on internet?

Okay, So now I'm looking for a Cross-check, or Karate Monkey / Ogre.

CX-like bike are not that common around here, but if I can, I'll give a try at the crosscheck and find by myself.
I like the big tyres and the drop outs  icon_biggrin

Hell, If you have ideas of bikes that could fill the bill, I can add the names to my search list!

Horizontal drop outs
derailleur hanger
29" with 40mm tyres at the very lest
good steel

preferably V brake

Thanks Ronk!

I'll go with that option if I can't find a used one. I can't see the benefits of buying a brand new frame set, as for me that just means less money for the wheels... whicih is where I'll put most of the €€€

The Ogre would also do the job, (or any type of 29er with horizontal drop outs and derailleur hanger)

Couldn't source any KM. BangHead

Have any idea about this one? Like where I could find a 18" one (even disc is okay, I prefer to ride a disc bike than not riding at all : icon_biggrin )

8  Forums / Classifieds / WTB Karate Monkey 18" SS on: May 13, 2016, 05:41:54 AM
Yo

So I'm looking for a Karate monkey frameset.
V brake or disc is fine to me. 18", and SS tracks.
If you happen to have a large woodchipper. That's also on my list.

I'm in europe, so I'm kinda fearing the shipping fees, but anyway let's try  icon_biggrin

Thanks

Hey guys !

So I'm currently in Europe, planning a tour of the south (Portugal, Spain, France, Italia).

I used to that day either a 26" rigid mtb with 2" tires, or a rigid hybrid with 700x35.

Now, I like big wheels, and I love big tires. So I guess I'll need a 29er mtb.

Here's what I had in mind:
Vbrake. don't tell me about discs nono. seriously  icon_biggrin
Horizontal Dropouts: I like to SS!! maybe I'll later convert it to a singlecrank.
Derailleur hanger: because I hate SS  icon_biggrin
Ability to put midges bars. I've only known flat mtb bars, but it appears to be important to be comfortable on your bike when travelling, so I'll give it a go.

Of course, I'll need a suspension-less bike, and want to try something else than aluminium. so titanium, steel or carbon are okay (even though my budget might only allow steel)

For now I'm thinking of a Karate Monkey! the frameset would be good.
There's also the Ogre and Cross Check that I have n mind

Any idea where I could order it online with an int. shipping?

Thanks!!
10  Forums / Question and Answer / a light frame set. Ti or Steel? on: October 02, 2015, 05:05:03 PM
So I'm planning on a new bike, a light one for bikepacking. That includes commuting 2nighters and long distance travelling.
I'm  looking for a light frame or frameset and would like to be pointed to some good references that provide weight informations on their products.

What I know  I want:
- light frame set!
- no suspension whatsoever
- Single speed. Will try 32x18
- 29" wheels. 35mm tires at least.
- Ti, or steel

Where would you look for this?
Could consider a carbon fork as very few manufacturer bother to make custom forks, be it steel or Ti
11  Forums / Classifieds / LF seat bag on: September 10, 2014, 02:31:34 AM
Hi,

I'm looking for a seat bag, as long as it is not too small, black, and not expensive.
I'm really on budget (bought the bike, still have to equip it, helmet, bivy gear, it all adds up fast!)

Used items are okay.
DIY stuff is welcome even if it has flaws.

Paypal, I get the shipping fees, I'm in Europe.

Thanks Wink

13  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: What kind of seat did you BP with? on: September 10, 2014, 01:33:40 AM
JRA: I don't think I can find this sort of offer in my country.

I went with a suspended seat stem, at 450g + a dutch style seat, at 450g.

If I'm not happy (I'm already not with the weight, hope it saves my perineum) I'll go with a light one with no padding.
14  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: What kind of seat did you BP with? on: September 04, 2014, 03:50:25 AM
I now have two choices, maybe UI'll try both to see what works best for me:
- fixed seat stem, 250g + thin seat, 250g
OR
- suspended seat stem, 450g + "fitness comfort" style seat, 450g
15  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: What kind of seat did you BP with? on: August 30, 2014, 09:36:06 AM
Did some researchs...

So I have a "fitness" riding position (60° angle) I'll get a seat according to that.

What would you think of a suspended seat stem on a rigid mtb, used on trails (not bumpy ones)?
16  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: What kind of seat did you BP with? on: August 03, 2014, 02:55:30 AM
Hi mattyp,

I didn't knew about that fact at all.
Thanks for the intel, I'll try to find some lightweight saddle then.

And I finally have my answer to why on BP's pics everyone has a somewhat tiny saddle. It didn't made sense for me as you spend dozens of hours on that saddle...
17  Forums / Question and Answer / What kind of seat did you BP with? on: July 31, 2014, 11:29:02 AM
As the seat will ultimately be a pain; I wonder if I need that gel seat + gel seat cover, or just a thin seat.

I don't want to damage my body though, maybe cushionning is not a bad idea (impacts on the spine, and blood vessels).

What would go with?
18  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Need a bike to bikepack. Paratrooper ? on: July 31, 2014, 11:10:38 AM
Okay, Now I have the frame (paratrooper).

The head tube is quite short (at 11cm, compared to my 29er at 16cm). How should I pick a fork then?
19  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Need a bike to bikepack. Paratrooper ? on: July 02, 2014, 05:00:45 AM
By the way, if anyone can think of a full size mountain bike (26" at least), please let me know.

Dgjessee: not at all, any thoughts on this brand is welcome, thank you Wink
20  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Need a bike to bikepack. Paratrooper ? on: July 02, 2014, 02:43:52 AM
dgjessee: yours seems fine, it's not a full-size folding, but if you are satisfied with the brand, it's good news!

PS: I'm fairly new to bike, and haven't seen any mnotague bike in my life...
It's not a brand well implanted where I live.

Thanks guys!
