Argh!  This is the one site I forgot to pull my listing down...  I'm sorry.  After major contemplation, I ended up deciding to keep the tent.
2  Forums / Classifieds / FS: Big Agnes Fly Creek 2 Platinum! on: August 21, 2017, 10:03:21 AM
Up for sale is my BA Fly Creek 2 platinum tent.  These retailed for $549 and are one of the lightest two person tents available.  I bought the tent with aspirations of doing some bikepacking, however after only one use on a single overnight trip(tent hasn't been out of the packaging since then), I have not been able to make it out again and will not be able to for the foreseeable future.  I can post more pics of it set up, but if you Google it, you can see what it looks like.  I'm looking to try to get $300 for it, but I am definitely open to reasonable offers.  I don't have any history on here of selling, however if you are on eBay, you can search my user name of dhidoug and see that I've got multiple years of excellent transaction history with purchases and sales.

Oh, and I do have to say, the fancy orange shag carpet in the picture is not for sale at this time, unless you're dying to have some of it, which I'm sure I can cut a chunk off and satisfy your needs!

I think I should be able to fit this in a large USPS flat rate box, so anywhere in the US for reasonable shipping prices.

I wanted to say that harryonaspot is a great seller.  Good communication, fast shipping, and everything was as described.  Smiley

Thank you!

I'll second that!

HAHA!  Great reply vikb!  I did end up purchasing a used set of Surly racks from a fellow forum member.  I have no doubt they'll be super heavy, which will certainly help to get my fat arse back into condition after having been off the bike the last couple of months...  Since I'm just getting into adventure-cycling/bikepacking, I'm not too concerned with starting out with the nicest equipment, basically I'll have to learn what works(and doesn't work) for me.

Besides, train heavy and race light, right?

Thank you jmh for the great pics!  I love that one of Josh sitting there on the curb with the smile on his face.  Awesome!!

Looked at that video of JK. He appears spun out. No more gear. If JP has anything left, he has the gearing.

Nope.  Look at the chain alignment on the cogs and the position of RD.  Still has a few cogs left on there to drop down.

Hey!  Just curious, but does anyone know of anyone in the local area that might be able to film the finish?  Josh's brother is asking for any help that might be available.

Yes. Josh & Val got Ti Fargos for the TD 2014. Josh built/assembled most of both bikes. It's all at Far Out Wanderings. I assume Josh is on the same bike this year. Salsa should be signing them to a sponsor deal.

Wayne
You assumed correctly Wayne.  Josh is riding the same frame as last year.  He truly loves his Ti Fargo.

Afternoon headwinds between Cuba and Grants might come into play as well!! BangHead  Anybody know if Josh is riding with aero bars?  Didn't look like Alex Harris has them.

Yes, he is running aero bars.  Woodchippers with clamp on extensions.

Kato is still within striking distances of JayP and Neil. Just a few miles back, near La Garita. Could be a Pie Town showdown, if Kato can keep with them all, and neglect an hour of sleep.

My money's on Josh.  As our mutual friend is saying, he's "eating dragon scales and crapping lightning!"
15  Forums / Question and Answer / Rear rack for Surly Ogre on: June 24, 2015, 12:47:05 PM
Hey all!  I do believe that this is my first post on the forum.  I've been trolling for a while now, learning and observing.  Now, it's time to post up a question that is currently vexing me.

I've got a new Surly Ogre that I built up just a few months ago with the intention of using it as a commuter bike, as well as an adventure bike to get out with my buddy and do some fly fishing, camping, and generally just stomp around on out in the woods.  I'm looking to outfit it with a rear rack, as compared to a seatbag, primarily because I'd like to have panniers to haul my work clothes with me when I commute, rather than cramming them in a pack/backpack(like I have currently been doing on my road bike).  The rack is going to have to support a fair amount of weight, primarily because I don't have the chi-chi lightweight camping gear.

My options, as they currently stand based on my research, are:  Salsa HD Wanderlust, Surly Nice, or Tubus Logo Evo.  These are all in my price range and I believe will fit my needs.  Oh, and I will not be racing with this rig, so lightweight isn't necessarily the most important factor.

If you had your choice, which would you go with and why?  I'm leaning towards the Surly rack, primarily because of the brand match.

Thoughts and opinions, and even other brand/model suggestions are also appreciated.

I just pulled the trigger on an Ogre.  Waiting for it, impatiently, as I type.
17  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Specialized AWOL Comp on: July 24, 2014, 08:08:51 PM
Thanks hmaddox!  Yeah, might be able to talk with my local Specialized rep about it too.  I guess my two major drawbacks are the lack of many bottle mounts and the ability to only fit up to 2.2 tires.  I think that even with 2.1's, it'd be quite amazing on most anything, but yeah, really rocky stuff would be bad.  I've been riding my Crux CX bike on some really bad terrain, and that only had 32c tires, so 2.1 would be way better.  Once I sort out what I'm gonna selling my Crux to find this purchase, so it might be a few weeks.  Would love to have an AWOL for fall riding!
18  Forums / Question and Answer / Specialized AWOL Comp on: July 23, 2014, 05:05:00 PM
Howdy all!  Pardon me if I've got this in the wrong location, but figured since it was a question, this  might be the best place to put it.

I'm looking to get into adventure-biking/bikepacking in the very near future.  this means I'm in the market for a bike that shall fulfill my needs for gravel road grinding, asphalt suffering, and single-track slaying.  A very good friend of mine and his wife both have Fargo's and love them, so I was initially leaning that route.  My buddy actually has two of them, one Ti and the other steel and I was able to ride the steelie and loved it!

Currently I ride for a local shop sponsored team and have the ability to order Specialized bikes.  I was told by the shop that they can obtain the AWOL, which I finally looked at today on Specialized's website and seem to think this bike might fit the bill.  Does anyone on here have any experience with this bike?  I'd be looking at the Comp version.

Thoughts/opinions?

bio_¡?  The oval  shaped chain ring was faster.  Acceleration comes from pushing down on the pedal. More teeth during the down stroke, less teeth between down strokes, means more time accelerating.  It was abandoned because it trashes knees quickly.

In the old day one chainring existed.  Looks like we are going back to one chainring.  A few more years and we will have internal geared bottom brackets, instead of internal geared hubs
