-REI (god only knows the model) synthetic sleeping bag. Running strong (if a little cold) into it's 10th year. -Patagonia stretch capilene base layers. Stinky as hell but still warm. -Pendleton wool shirts. -Lowe Alpine daypack. Been through hell and back, and still kickin. -MSR whisperlight international. -Any Surly product made. -Suntour ratcheting thumb shifters. These are the Best! -Crank Bros multi-tool. -Leatherman. -King Cage bottle cages.
And a tribute to those products that made everything else last just a little longer: -Sewing machine -Seam Sealer -Barge

If you want waterproof, I believe Pelican sells little dry boxes with clear windows that you could drill and modify pretty easily. If you want to go super cheap and simple, I would go with an altoids tin. Cut a window and glue or rivet a plastic window. Seems like a fun project, post pictures if you make one!

Forums / Question and Answer / Rigid or susp. frames?

Hi everyone, let me introduce myself. My name's Eric, I'm from Durango, CO, and I'm an avid road tourist and old bike aficionado. However, the concept of touring off-road didn't occur to me until just recently. What a fantastic idea! So I'm going to get out on the trails for a few trips this summer, but I'm still in learning mode right now. I have an old rigid rockhopper that I run with big fat tires, and I love it. I'm planning on getting a frame bag on that and using it.
My question is, do you guys mostly run suspension or rigid mtbs? What would you prefer for bikepacking over dayriding and why?
