Hello

read your post and I am planning on riding the Great Divide in early July
so we should keep in touch.

I rode part of it in 2016 in Montana and I want to go back and put on some serious miles this year.

I  will either start in Eureka Mt or Butte Mt going south.

thanks

5  Forums / Trip Planning / Need a partner / GDMBR Supported Butte, Mt to Pinedale Wy--2 weeks on: January 10, 2018, 09:27:41 AM
I am riding the Great Divide from Butte, Montana, to Pinedale, Wyoming, with a support vehicle. This will be in early July! I rode 2 weeks in 2016, had some knee issues and had to get off the route. So I am riding with a support truck, and if anyone is interested in joining me on that 2-week trip  the cost will be $450.00--12 days of riding. This is a great way to get acclimated to the Route then continue on as I am going to go unsupported from Pinedale to New Mexico! We will carry your camping gear any extra food, etc., for you. Great opportunity! You won't want to miss this adventure!

My Lovely wife LuAnne will be driving the truck with the gear.
We are seasoned wilderness campers and lived in Western Mt for 25 years plus.

We are pretty loose so this will be a fun trip, no pressure.
We will have prescribed camping spots as we will follow Mike McCoys book on the Great Divide
You will be on your own with no medical, bike maintenance or other support service will be available.

We will provide a heavy duty bin for your gear which will go in back of the truck.

40-60 miles per day  is the plan.
We are looking for 6 riders.
We could meet in Missoula or Butte as I will be going to Missoula in late June then cycling over to Butte.
My wife will meet everyone either in Butte or Missoula.

As I mentioned earlier I will be heading on into the Great Basin unsupported from Pinedale
going to Colorado and perhaps beyond.

Your welcome to continue on with me if you like.

This will be an awesome adventure for sure!!

Jax,

I am new to this as well and plan to ride on the Great divide route this summer.

I have done a ton of research and can tell you whatever bike you purchase hands down make it a 29er
or bike with 29 inch wheels.

Just a better ride overall and it rolls really nice.

Couple of bike companies come to mind.

Salsa cycles and Surly bikes make bikes specific to bikepacking.

Also this site has a ton of of info on the forums as well as the other
parts.

Go to http://www.adventurecycling.org for more info
as well as http://www.bikepackerpackersmagazine.com

one thing you will find there are a lot of opinions on gear and a lot of this stuff is personal preference.

just start reading in these forums and you will get a feel for it.

thanks

I would like to hear from those that have ridden the GDMBR
(toured) that have used a rear rack .

I am considering it vs a seat bag  (Vischacha) not for panniers but for a big dry bag.

what type of rack (mfg) model and has anyone tried the any of the racks from Salsa

thanks

I need some info on stagecoach 400 route. I know it exists and is
on the Tom Harrsion map for Sandiego county
but can't make any sense as to how it is pieced together.

I am interested in riding at least a portion of it this late winter early spring

As always thanks for input
