Starting the planning of my third bikepacking trip to Tahoe. If anyone wants to join I'd be happy to have you along. I know a few good routes but I am open to routes/days. Anything from an overnight to 3nights would be good for me.
Roughly mid-late June or early July, whenever Freel pass is clear.
Super nice area with both epic riding and views.
Thanks for looking, Tom

Ok, got the date set for some full moon bikepacking action. 4/21-4/23 with option for an extra day if I need it. 80% of route is set, last day has a few options depending on how I'm doing.
Day 1- Hunting Hollow to Pacheco Falls, camp nearby.
Day 2- Pacheco Falls to Mississippi lake.
Day 3- Mississippi lake to china hole or HQ.
I will also be riding home to Sunnyvale after the adventure.
Come one, come all, gonna be EPIC!

Well I rolled around Henry Coe all day just checking it out. While it is a bit challenging it's not nearly as difficult as I imagined. Possibly because there is plenty of oxygen there and most of my trips have been 7-10,000ft elevation. It's green everywhere and wildflowers are abundant. Looking like about 2 weeks until take off. Water doesn't look like it's going to be an issue due to our friend "El Nino". Creeks, streams and ponds are all loaded right now.
Not too late to join in if you're feeling it.  Tom

Howdy folks. I'm planning on bp'n Coe sometime in the next month or 2. My research has led me to believe this will be  strenuous task with careful planning(mainly water) a necessity. I'm looking for intel on "must see/do" stuff, water, and possibly another person/people to join in.

I am a 48yo male, been mtb'n since I was a teen, and have 6 overnighters under my belt(last 2 years). 4 in Tahoe, 2 in SF bay area. 5 with partner, 1 solo. I feel that I'm ready for a multiday at this point, but if you can only swing an overnighter that would be great also. First timer?.. All good, let's do it!

My weapon a Salsa El Mariachi, 2x10, 100mm fork, tubeless. It is outfitted with full revelate designs kit(framebag, seatbag, handlebar bag, gastank). My pack is an osprey22. 3ltr bladder, Katadyne hiker pro filter, optimus stove/cookware. I use a silnylon tarp with a mesh bivy and down mummy. Flats/510's FWIW.

Hit me with any advice you have. All responses are appreciated. If you want to go, let's do this thing!

Thanks, Tom

Nice description, krampus. Same way I felt about it. Very visually rewarding.

Anytime. For anyone putting John Nicholas trail on a route it is both a joy to climb and descend. Take special note of all the beautiful stone work on the switchbacks and bridge, all from rock quarried from Sanborn park.

They haven't changed all the signage yet, but they have paper signs advising on skyline side when I was out there. Soft opening was 2 Saturday's ago. Official public opening will be in spring.

Howdy, glad I found this. Lots of good info for a bay area bikepacker like myself. If you end up on skyline there is a couple of new sections of trail recently opened. I usually stealth camp but the new sections go right past Castlerock camping, and Sanborn park camping. From hwy9/35, skyline trail is now open to bikes going south to Sunnyvale mtn(about 5 miles). From there you can pick up the brand new "john Nicolas trail" which will drop down to sanborn and continue to Black rd., which drops to Lexington res where you can head into "Sierra Azul" or over to demo/nisene. Lot of good routes suggested here, I'm working on a Skyline ridge to Canada del oro trip to do in the next month or two myself. Happy Trails
