My wife and I are touring the GDMBR. Late this afternoon, we ran into Jeff Taylor a few miles north of Holland Lake Lodge. He was in fine spirits, despite a mishap in Colorado, and was aiming for Ferndale tonight.
Planning on riding the GDMBR this summer at touring pace and wondering about the Warmsutter reroute the racers are using. The Adventure Cycling gps tracks still indicate the route through Rawlins, but the on-site addenda makes it look like a pain. I understand from the following the race thread that there's a rocky section and more climbing, but is there any reasons for touring riders NOT to go through Warmsutter?
I would have seen support as referring to practical help of any description. I get that the mental challenge of racing "alone," dealing with the solitude, etc., could be compromised by an emotional support network. For the purists, this could well be an important point of order, but taken to an extreme, this would mean that even positive comments from other racers or citizens along the route could be forbidden.
