Now that 1.5 years have passed and porcelain rocket mr fusion is not available any more (If I understood their blog correct) ...
Any new findings on equipment that fixes the swaying issue?

Quite the contrary...Mr. Fusion is more available than ever.  We build them in large batches once a month, but these batches sell out quickly.  Email me to be put on a pre-notification list for the next batch.

Available from where?  I have been visiting the PR website for regularly months and there has not been any option to place on order.
Perhaps the PR website has been broken all this time.

Orders closed on April 25th, as I'm going away for a month-long fatbike trip in August and the queue was full until then.  You could place an order through the site for years before that.  We have built and shipped over 300 Mr. Fusion V2's in the last year...

The site will be open to orders in July.

I apologize if it is frustrating to have to wait for something you want.

You just missed an uninterrupted 3-year window of us taking/building orders...but yeah, pretty tough to squeak in there.

While there is a lead time with the products we make, they are generally always available, excepting the times that we are closing for adventures of our own.

We really need to get over this 'have it now' mindset...

Do we need to move this to the Ultra Racing forum?  Wink

C'mon boys, not everyone is out there racing.

Yo Steve-O!

Helena.  Great place.  Good MTBing.  Cheap.  I've always loved that place.

Thanks Scott. Maybe I should duck around the corner and check out Tom's panel Smiley.  Not that I am planning the Canning Stock Route but it is good to know it worked for you both and that at least for the longer trips or longer periods it might be an option. I suspect for those rides I will need a rack anyway to carry the water so that aspect is solved.

I wonder but if the flexible panel would be a better option in such a setup?

Andrew

I would seriously look into a large Bruunton flexible panel like Tom used, and forget those massive battery packs!  I promise that you will regret the extra weight.  I had a very small little USB "jump pack" from GoalZero, and I would sometimes charge this during the day, and then charge my iPod overnight in the tent...

You live in the sunniest place in the world!  Use it.  I cannot imagine touring in Aus without a rear rack at least.  Being able to carry that little bit of extra water is a nice thing.

We made it 28 days without plugging in on our Canning Stock Route traverse of last year.  No dynamos...

I used a GoalZero rigid solar panel to charge my iPod, AA's for the GPS, SPOT batteries and my camera battery.  Basically had it draped over the rear rack all day, everyday.

Tom used a Bruunton flexible panel to basicaly direct-power his iPhone (which he used for navigation).  He also charged various batteries on this panel throughout each day.  Again, the panel was draped over the rear rack all day, everyday.  We would move the panels to maximize exposure.

So, yes it's totally do-able.  I think you just have to be prepared to go without a few of the more-modern conveniences...

Happy to help if you want the help.

Not that it matters now, even if I could reach Eric from Revelate Designs now, it's far too late. I already accepted sponsorship by Apidura.

Exactly.  Why do you think you are getting the impression that Apidura bags are used mainly by adventure racers?  That's what she wants you to think.  And she gets you to think that by sponsoring anyone she can...simple marketing.

Thank you. Read through it, they only did an overnighter. I will go a year with them, Siberia and the silkroad. Guess its hard to find long-term reports about a product that exists since barely 2 years. I saw that the people in the world cycle race, like Mark Beauchamp, use it, so it must be pretty decent. And obviously the companies founder, Tori Fahey, knows what he is doing.

Tori Fahey is a she, and these bags are essentially just Asian-made Revelate knock-offs.

I know what it is.  It's expensive even direct through the distributor.  You can get a yard of it for about $35 from a company in Texas at retail pricing.  I don't use it on my seat bags because that part is not really being pressed against the seat as much as it's being pulled away.  I use heavy vinyl on my seatbags.  I'd be happy to send you a scrap large enough for you to use to make your own.  Just pm me.

Jesus...c'mon man...don't be so cryptic.  It's called Rhinotek and it's available from HTI Global, if you can manage to snag their attention.

Not to mention, the Goat Creek trail isn't even close to rideable at the moment.  There's still lots of damage to the Canadian section of the Divide route from this summer's floods.

With winter coming, I'd doubt that the Parks trail crews will get it fixed in time for the GD.  They've surprised me before though...

Agreed.  The standard black Droms are insanely durable.  I've used mine for years and 1,000's of miles...still going strong.

My guess would be a stealth attack

That would be a logical explanation, though it seems outside of Craig's ethics.  Who knows...it would be fantastic to see his dot show up far down route.

Stappler, Stappler...anyone...anyone...Stappler?

I really hope Craig's OK.

Como Depot, can you report having seen Craig at all?

I won't be surprised if MH pulls away slowly, though, based on his last 3 days of reeling him in.  Good steady work at ridiculous daily distances.

I will be surprised if Craig lets Mike out of his sights now...

Alright girls and boys.

Seeing as we're about to the 'freak-out' point, I thought it would be a good time to bring a different sort of offering to the table.

I live in Calgary, so if any of you get here, and find yourselves in a bind, needing a place to pitch, needing a place to build a bike, needing a beer, or needing a cry, you are more than welcome here.  Send an email or PM.  I'll get back to you with directions on how to get here...

Best of luck to all of you with your final prep.

Yo Eric,

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on what disadvantages you see in bolt-on framebags?  Other than being a bit fiddly to install and remove...

I fondled this bike at NAHBS and it was indeed well-executed on all fronts.  Nice work, Rob and Scot!
