Hi all!

Avid follower of the TD (with one failed attempt under my belt Smiley) here with a friendly request. I am a grade 6/7 social studies teacher in New Brunswick, Canada. I currently teach at an inter-city school where the students have very little opportunity/exposure to outdoor adventure. I feel many of these students would be very interested in following an event such as the TD via Trackleaders, and noting the changes in climate, geography, etc, of each region in which the racers ride through. In addition to simply following the race itself, I was hoping to recruit a few TD participants who would be willing to send us some occasional updates on how their Tour is going along the way. We could accomplish this through email perhaps? I feel that putting a personality to the "Dot" would go long way with keeping the kids engaged.

If anybody participating in this year's Tour Divide thinks they may be interested in this, please drop me an email at nkporter20@gmail.com and we can discuss further. I totally understand that time and service are in limited quantities out on the Divide so I certainly would not expect regular updates. Even a weekly check in would be fantastic and I know the kids would love it!

Thanks a lot everyone!

This year there was no cairn on Day 2 - gamesmanship from the earlier riders???

The group I was riding with (and then a few other groups that caught up while we were looking) had some trouble finding it even though we had GPS. Definitely tricky as the singletrack begins on a steep climb/embankment that you would not think a trail would be on.

That said, the trail was great and it lead eventually to a long downhill section that brought the spirits up!

Awesome, thanks Flinch! Probably best bet then is to get a ride from Jeff from Antelope Wells to Hachita and then ride/hitch a ride to Lordsburg to hop on a Greyhound to El Paso........getting a bike box before the Greyhound could prove difficult though. Any suggestions there? Maybe see if the bike shop in Silver City can have one shipped to Hachita?

Hey all, at some point I remember reading about a man who lives in the closest town to Antelope Wells (Hachita I think?) who you can arrange to pick you up in Antelope Wells and bring you back to Hachita. Has anybody heard of this? If so could I get his information off of you?
Appreciate it!
9  Forums / Trip Planning / Need a partner / Getting From Edmonton To Banff For GDMBR Grand Depart? on: May 10, 2015, 10:19:50 AM
Hey guys, planning to take my first shot at the Divide this summer but of course there is a late problem that I need to solve. I am flying into Edmonton to stay with a friend about a week before the start of the Tour Divide and he was originally going to drive me to Banff a day or two before the Grand Depart. Unfortunately he has been scheduled on a work trip now and will not be able to drive me anymore.

I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions on the best/cheapest way to get from Edmonton to Banff? Budget is tight enough as it is for this adventure!

Also if anyone was planning on leaving from the Edmonton area for the start in Banff and would be willing to let me tag along I could chip in for gas, etc. (27 year old married male)

Thank you!
