Didn't need water after loading up at The Place in Ventucopa so didn't search for water in SB Canyon Creek. I did notice flowing water in Alamo Canyon, where Big Pine Road turns West about 10 miles after Hwy 33.

There's water at Choke Cherry Springs (about 20 miles in) but its stagnant and nasty. There is amazing water, pretty reliable, at Bluff Camp (about 30 miles in). Not super great water in a trough on Camuesa road (about 50 miles in), and water at Indian Creek, Santa Ynez River and Escondido Creek crossings. See the cue sheets on the Tour De Los Padres website.
I'd be surprised if it took 3 days, unless you were going at a very slow pace, as i did the whole tour route in 1 day and 9 hours, including almost 12 hours camping out.

The route is not technical at all, basically fire roads, which are rutty and rough in spots and a little bit of single track at the end on Romero. The route is strenuous though, as you will do nearly 5000 feet of climbing to get to the highest point at Big Pine Mtn. before any significant descending.

It was a fabulous tour. Got a flat at mile 10, sealant spraying not sealing, threw in a tube, realized I only brought 1, uh oh. Ran into Gregg D who hooked me up on a tube at Big Pine Rd, Sierra Madre Rd. intersection. No more issues until it was pointed out to me by a rec rider that I happened to know that I was missing a spoke in rear wheel, luckily it stayed true enough to finish. Ran into him at Bluff Camp. He took off while I was watering up and I caught up to him a while later, he said he came upon a big bear which started running away down the road for a bit before dashing into the bush. I must have just missed it. Gregg D was at Brewhouse and we had a feast / brews and I returned his tube. Begin time 8:52 at liquor store in Frazier Park ( https://goo.gl/photos/sAFp1LhRS1tXwB969 ) . End time 6:04 pm SB Train Station( https://goo.gl/photos/kaqUBmVtRvV5gSJj8 ) = 33 hrs, 14 mins. https://www.strava.com/activities/535227469Link to Google Photo Album: https://goo.gl/photos/DDGPSB7NtpmePyL56

Hey dot stalkers! Looks like they are off and riding, with Armand, Gregg and Art pushing the pace.
Anybody notice that Rachel and Dave skipped Mt. Pinos. Hmmm, thats curious. No biggy, just 15 miles and 2500 feet of climbing, not to mention the best single track on the tour route.
I'm doing the tour route solo leaving tomorrow / Saturday at 8am +/-. I did it last year with 1 overnight and decided that since i'm out of vacation time for the year, to adjust the schedule by a day.
If anyone is interesed, come join me! I didn't end up renting a spot tracker but will record the ride with everyone's favorite Strava. Cheers!

Wes, sorry you did not complete the tour route. I know this because I was with you at Pine Mountain club and you opted for the highway instead of the singletrack after Pine Mountain Club. You said "you were tired". I urged you to stay on course, but you declined. Rachel skipped the summit of Mt. Pinos, so she did not complete the route either. I would love to say you were the first two to complete the tour route, but as it stands, no one has completed that route on course yet.
Ahh yes, thats right, forgot about that part. So I skipped a 1/4 mi and a couple hundred feet of climbing, so that's 99.8 % complete. I made up for it by hiking to the top of Big Pine, and that'll have to do for this year, quite enjoyable.

Scratched- (bailed out, or did not stay on route): Michael Grosso Claude Frat Rachel Finch Wes Barber Trevor Thorpe Robert Newton Roland Sturm
I would like to clarify that Wes Barber (myself) and Rachel Finch set out with the intent of completing the shorter "Tour Route" and both of us did complete the route on course. I completed at Sat eve at 8:30pm, so 35 hr - 20 min. Great job by Erin organizing and also to all those attempting and completing the Tour. It was awesome and memorable. I will contemplate doing the full route next year for sure.
