First & foremost: Make sure you have comfortable & durable shoes!!

I would consider flat pedals, given all the hike-a-biking, unless you have a pair of shoes you love to hike in for dozens upon dozens of miles.

What are the typical choices for non-clipless shoes for CTR?

I made the switch flat from clipless about a year ago and just cannot imagine going back. I've been riding in Five Ten Freeriders and Evolv Cruzers. Not sure how either would hold up with all the HAB in CTR, and the Cruzers are probably way too minimal anyway.

Anyone know of any durable trail running shoes that would be a nice option for flats?

Looks like Justin will finish right at 60 days - just Evans/Bierstadt and Longs/Meeker (plus 150 miles of riding, mostly on the Peak-to-Peak) to go. What an amazing journey!

Been dot watching daily since reading about Indiana's Imogene Pass snafu. I've been hoping he can come back and make race out of it with Dylan, but Dylan's lead has remained pretty solid.

I checked the tracker this morning and noticed Indiana was camped for about 12.5 hours last night in the Schell Creek range. Any insight as to why he had such a long stop? Just exhaustion maybe? Kinda surprised he didn't grab a hotel in Baker if he was going to sleep for so long. Perhaps he just overslept.

Woops, not sure why I wrote the 19th - I meant the 23rd (of June).

Was really hoping to be able to race the full course when I saw that it was going to be delayed until later in the summer, but unfortunately I'll have to be back in SLC to teach at 8:30am on Monday.

Might drive down and try to get an afternoon start of an ITT on Friday the 19th and then ride the Dixie Lite (or maybe even an Xtra-Lite, cutting off everything east of 89) unless I'm feeling really good. Damn you summer teaching responsibilities!

What I don't understand is why the selective, self-imposed handicap, when tubeless tires, 29er wheels, hydraulic brakes, carbon composites/steel/aluminum alloys derived from weapons and space research, yada, yada are embraced as something a proper bike should have, but not a variable ratio transmission? There are so many other ways to handicap the bike and/or make it harder. A simple rubber-band over the brake lever(s) comes to mind and is quite the elegant solution...

Because people enjoy riding singlespeed. I don't know of anyone who gets specific pleasure out of riding tubed tires or riding with locked down brakes.

Mike Hall currently has 20 hours on Kato's record coming into Abiquiu. It took Kato 2.5 days to make it from Abiquiu to the finish. I wonder if Hall will be able to finish with daylight remaining on the 13th day. Unfortunately, Hall does not have the luxury(?) of any stiff competition actively motivating him for the win.

This is awesome. I'd love to see a similar map for Utah. I wonder if it's feasible...
