I recently removed a broken zipper of a revelate bag and converted it to a zipperless flap bag. it turned out pretty well! (pictures below)

Thanks for the kind words! super fun riding with you guys. 
We did not finish - after you passed us on the downhill we got pretty worked over by the remainder of the descent (Rose Hill Garden?).  Having covered only 40 miles on Saturday and 50 on Sunday - we decided it was unrealistic to finish the final 50 miles and resolve the logistics of getting back to Fruita & home all in the same day.
  Instead we exited from Fisher Valley out through Onion Creek which is also a very worthy/beautiful ride.  Super fun Memorial Weekend... I'm eager to get back out to the desert again!
