Nice work, Aaron!!

For anyone who has completed this iconic route, with the help of my graphic designer friend, we came up with a design for a Tour Divide Finisher patch. They are 3" round, $6 ea (USD) shipping is included. Once I cover my costs, I'll be making donations to the Fernie SAR.

That's a wrap for the 2022 AZTR!! What a year it was. 24% finish rate among the 300 starters, 50% finish rate for the 800 riders with 8 of 9 on singlespeeds!! Two Triple Crown Challenge finishers: Andrew Strempke (also a singlespeed Triple Crown record with the more difficult Lemmon Pusch route) & Ana Jager as the second women to complete the challenge. New singlespeed records set on the 800: Jefe Branham and he also becomes the second person to win all three of the Triple Crown events, Kurt Refsnider the other. Alexandera Houchin lowered her singlespeed 800 record.

Mark your calendars: Thursday, October 19th, 2023 (Registration opens September 19th at 7a Arizona time)
Expect more singletrack for 2023 as the Temporal Gulch project should be completed this coming spring and work continues on the Highline trail.

Congrats to everyone who toed the start line this year, that's often the toughest part. Hat tip to all the finishers this year in some tough and unforgiving conditions.

*I'm going back over the results from years past and adding a note to all the Triple Crown finishers as that should be recognized. So look for a '^' next to the rider's name.

Also, if you haven't been listening to the mtbcast call-ins this year, you're missing out. There's been a lot of them and they give a fantastic in-the-heat-of-the-moment perspective of what it's like out there.

For those wondering about Andy last night, he missed his USPS pickup in Tusayan so he rigged up his Plan B option. He got a little ways into the hike and realized it wasn't going to work. So, he turned around, back up to the South Rim got some sleep. Rode back to Tusayan this morning to get his preferred setup and a breakfast buffet. So, while he was delayed, he at least got some needed rest.

Jefe has reported about 2" of snow on the North Rim, but it's very rideable. Said he could barely stand up after the Canyon portage.

Here's the skinny on the El Pilar addition to the routes for 2022:

Scott has the registration link set to cut off at 60. Anyone interested in an ITT after the Grand Depart fills, if it does, can reach out to me for a registration link.

In the meantime, I've been asked a few times just how much pavement is on route and I've given some guesstimates. Well, I decided to pour over the gpx track and get a more precise number, so here you go:

Fun fact: the 800 route (full resolution gpx is 827.3 miles) has a grand total of 63.1 paved miles or 7.6% of the rull route. (The 300, 306.4 miles, has 34.6 miles of pavement or 11.3% of the full route). The first miles of pavement are on Loma Alta Rd. as you approach Tucson at mile 126.3!! The final section of pavement for the 300 is when you simply cross the Gila River in Kelvin at mile 268.7 and the final paved miles of the 800 are on the Natural Bridge State Park road a few miles before Pine at mile 487. In conclusion, that's a shit ton of singletrack and dirt roads!! Enjoy.

GPX files have been updated and posted to the website. Please update your files!! Note, there are separate files for anyone who wishes to go southbound, the XL version. I made every effort to make the southbound versions more difficult. Southbound is ITT only.

For each route there is a full resolution file and a reduced 10k version. Most, if not all, GPS devices will support files up to 10k data points, any more than that and your file will get truncated. Keep this in mind.

The cue sheet needs to be updated, I'll get to that as time permits. The cue sheet is based off the full resolution gpx file as far as mileage goes. Yes, there's quite a discrepancy between the full file and the 10k file. For example the 800 is actually 836 miles, the 10k version of that file is 808 miles. Total gain is over 100,000'. The 300 is 306 & 301 respectively & 43,000' of gain.

I added the Queen's Ransom Bikepacking Loop to BP.com within the last year!! Heavy on singletrack and rocks!!  But, yeah, the gravel routes are the trendy thing to do these days. At least in these parts, Four Corners region, a lot of the gravel routes still have a fair amount of technical riding...thank goodness for 4x4 'roads'.

REGISTRATION CHANGE!! For anyone who plans to sign up for the Grand Depart on October 20, I had to move the registration back 4 hours on September 20. Sign-up will go live at 11a AZ time (Mountain Standard/Pacific Daylight Savings). I had a conflict with my new work schedule and can't guarantee I'd be available to post the link at the previous time. I'll post this elsewhere, but please help spread the word. This does not affect the start of the ride, only the registration for the Grand Depart.
