So utterly delicious. Thank you.
3  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: What bags do you use with drop bars? on: June 08, 2018, 08:21:33 PM
Ortlieb 7L dry bag with Oveja Negra front harness thingy (Front End Loader). There is enough space between the hoods and ends of the bag for my hands, so it's pretty comfy. I think my Woodchippers are the wide ones (46cm). Can't say enough good things about the Oveja Negra FEL - it's super secure and easy to use. I have a Revelate Pocket that I use in conjunction with that sum'bitch and it works like a cham-peen.

Hey Demian, I was in the same boat a few years ago.  I started the SLC Bicycle Touring & Bikepacking Meet-up, so I now have people to go with.  Just food for thought.  Roo
Thanks Roo! I have given that some thought - may try and dovetail into the Front Range Gravel FB page. Those guys are more serious racer-types but I'm sure there's overlap in interests... cheers.

Planning on some trips myself, let me know what you have in mind.
I am thinking sections 1/2 of the CT for a long weekend in June, launching from my house and riding to the start through Sedalia. July long weekend in Steamboat, August in Salida area, then Utah this fall. PM and let's see if we can hook up!

My cup runneth over here in Colorado and I have several small trips in mind. Just need another person to hook up with and ride - most of my friends are day-trippers and won’t do overnight bike rides. Something about riding till the wee hours, sitting around a fire, and collapsing into a bivy that just does it for me. So this spring and summer, I’m all about some front range fun. Not a racer by any stretch but love to ride and talk bikes and explore.

Hoping to do a long weekend trip every month from April thru October, including a day or three along the CT, some hinterland exploring in southern Wyo, and wherever else my wheels wanna go. Let me know if you’re interested. I live just south of Denver and I’m always down to chase adventure.

10  Forums / Trip Planning / Need a partner / Ring the Peak! (CO) on: April 28, 2017, 08:10:26 PM
I am developing an unhealthy desire to go do this RTP ride but definitely thinking of making it a 3-dayer. I live between Co Springs and Denver and also looking to do some S24O stuff in the coming weeks/months. Looking for any enthusiastic folk who might like to join. I'm not a racer, but love to be out there doing stuff.

Ring the Peak is a ride around Pike's Peak, for anyone who's not familiar. A segment of the route still has to do shoulders on a busy road (8 miles I think they're down to now) - great writeup from Scott Morris ten years back which is what made me want to do this (but not in one day!). Smiley http://topofusion.com/diary/2007/07/10/ring-the-peak/

Also thinking about launching from my house and navigating up to Rampart Range Rd. and down into Woodland Park. Some good dispersed camping to be done out in those woods. Open to other fun stuff too, while we wait for the high country to melt off.

50 people have looked, not one reply. What will it take to sell this?

Just speaking for myself, I would say photos would be thing 1. Also, size small limits your pool of potential buyers (and the price is probably a wee bit on the high side). Hope this helps.

Hey, good work on that Cohutta loop. The RWGPS link isn't working for me but Trackleaders is. Wish this had been a thing when I lived in Dahlonega!
13  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Great deal on Talon 22 or is there a better pack on: April 08, 2017, 02:21:51 PM
Not sure a pack gets much 'better' than the ol' Talon 22. Still, wearing a backpack is a sweaty proposition and my main gripe with it would have to be the waist belt - it's overkill for the amount of weight, though does add some stability. Going for no pack at all is a goal for the next outing - but if you want to use a hydration pack with adequate storage for some extra gear, the T22 is a solid choice in any conditions.
14  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: OvejaNegra Front End Loader with Lunchbox on: April 08, 2017, 02:18:34 PM
Superb quality, easy to install, very stable. I have not used the lunchbox but have the Front-End Loader and it does exactly what I need it to. Paired with a Revelate Large Pocket it's really slick and easy to mount/dismount from the bike. Using on Woodchipper bars.
15  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Looking for a light S240 bikepacking rig on: April 08, 2017, 02:13:23 PM
Salsa Woodsmoke is a versatile rig, as is the new Karate Monkey. Used Ti El Mariachi is always a viable thing if you can find one...

Great problem to have! Hope to hear what you end up doing.

Looking for anyone who's done gravel roads with an overnight somewhere on the south end of the metro. Would like to take advantage of the next warm spell and get out there, but finding it difficult to find a good place to pause for an overnighter (without being on private land or otherwise exposed). Anyone know a place that would lend itself to such things? Would be great to keep up the fitness and get some S24O's even if a bit chilly. Would welcome anyone who's interested to tag along, too. I'm just north of Larkspur.

This photo is from Friday afternoon - some killer riding in late December.

Looks like that thing fits pretty dang proper. Throw some snack treats in there and go ride!
19  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Low maintanance bikepacking rig on: December 24, 2016, 12:50:12 PM

*Drool - Love that Domahidy.

Didn't Greg Minaar win a crap-ton of downhill races using a Honda DH bike with a similar gearbox? I've been under a rock for a while but seem to recall that technology working pretty well. DH might not be the best example, but centralizing that weight seems pretty smart. Think of the beauty of not having a derailleur flopping about like a spare appendage.
20  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Anyone using the Wahoo ELEMNT? on: December 24, 2016, 08:23:14 AM
very easy to zoom the map in and out using the up/down arrows. There is no panning however. Yes, you can update and contribute to OSM all you want. The ELEMNT will automatically update its OSM maps but I have no idea how frequently that happens. You can manage world maps on the ELEMNT too, but I dont know where the data base comes from and to the best of my knowledge it's all non-topo OSM maps. There's absolutely no online interface specifically for the unit. So there's no "Basecamp" type application for lots of detailed editing. But you can link dropbox to the ELEMNT so if you do all your own work on a route in something like Basecamp or Topofusion, you can send the GPX file to dropbox and the ELEMNT will import it through WiFi. You can't plug the ELEMNT into the computer and move any files that way. It's all wireless. So yeah, adding GPX files is very easy, but you just have to figure out your preferred online application (I will be using RWGPS for all my bikepacking in the future). As for firmware, yeah I mean you never really even notice when it does the updates. It will download them whenever it's turned on and in WiFi range.

Actually my only complaint - and it might be my phone's RAM dying - is that when I am using the app to change date fields it sometimes freezes for like 5 seconds (the phone screen), then it's fine. One other minor niggle is just that you're limited on the settings you can change without a phone. So like I usually have auto-pause enabled when I am doing road cycling training rides. But I never use it for mountain biking or bikepacking. When I started the Cohutta Cat 260 I realized I still had it on but I had to take my phone out, open the app, change the setting, then put it away. Really wasnt a huge deal, but a little irritating. Mostly my own fault for not pre-planning better.

Pretty intriguing setup - wonder if you'd be willing to elaborate a bit on the process; i.e., how to make the cues from RWGPS show up on the ELMNT, how the apps talk to each other, or if it's more manual?

Also, do you have to bring along the phone? I'd love to jettison that damn thing and not bring it along on my next multi-day, or at least keep it completely off unless needed. I have a power pack that could charge the ELMNT and would be willing to put in the up front work in RWGPS to plan it all out (like it sounds like you have done).

Do you have to use the paid version of RWGPS? Assume so, and happy to do so but might be good info to know. Thanks - informative thread about a cool product.
