If the route is not too large and you want turn by turn instructions, route.
If is too long to use route and you just want to show in the gps, track will work.

The page is about the map, not the route.
There is not (yet) a page dedicated to the route. So far the route follows mostly the character of the GDMR, that is more double track and unimproved roads than single track. But is a work in progress.

Some friends and I are working on extending the GDMBR south of the border. Still a lot to go, just some small sections have been confirmed so far.
My guess is that the first 200 miles are going to be ready by this time next year.
At the same time, we are working on a Garmin GPS map to use as base: https://libreriacrisol.blogspot.com/p/mapa-de-aventura-en-chihuahua-para-gps.html (the map covers no only the route but all Chihuahua state and surrounding places, if you are interested in the map but don't read Spanish, just look for the dropbox link)
I'll try to post notices for the next expeditions in case someone is interested.

I am a bit late for the post, but here is my take. I have an old Garmin etrex Legend HCx that I got when they were just about to be discontinued, so I got it cheap. I make my own maps as Garmin maps are expensive and that old model is limited on the options regarding maps it can take. It cannot hold a candle to the cellphone in terms of details and big screen. But then, that is in part the disadvantage of the phone, it get thru battery fast. While I have bikepacked a day and a half with only one set of batteries. etrex 20x would be the successor to my old GPS, and has a bit better resolution, and I think better option for maps. I will keep using my old Legend for as long as it works (hopefully not less than a a couple years). By then, I will see what is in the market and reevaluate. Remember a GPS in essence is latitude and longitude. Tracking, mapping all else varies by model and some my offer things that you consider vital, or overkill. My GPS is set to record everything and me making my maps makes me more comfortable to use and familiar.

Writing from north Mejico. Not as avid bikepacker as I would like to (work, kids, wife, etc.)
But like to ride and will soon do it in a new bike now that my trusted Specialized is going to retire.
Wishing to someday continue the Great Divide Route further south.
