Could you specify some more details about the route. positive climbing meters? Terrain? Distance?

Now, a question that my wife raised last night...

"If she backtracks, takes the road, then backtracks the course to the river, THEN continues on the course, would you DQ her?"

I opted to say " Alans call. Personally, no. But it's a two day diversion"

on the website it says this:

One route alternate is available to avoid a potentially dangerous river crossing in Fisherfield. If you arrive at this crossing and feel that it is too dangerous to cross, you may back track to the road and go via the coast to Poolewe. This will be a significant time penalty. There is no limit on the depth of the river, and it is up to the individual. Make wise and safe choices for yourself, regardless whether ten people have crossed before you."

So I guess she will be ok. Assuming she backtracked from the right river.

AC - Do you know anything about the logistics of this? The web site is pretty brief. Is free camping possible on the route or do we need to find hotels/pensions along the way?

I agree that the website is not very generous with information but it's a bikepacking event in the mountains, I'm sure that there will be free bivy/camping spots to be found pretty much anywhere along the route. I'm sure that that won't be a problem. The website states that the GPS file will be send out a week before the start but that is way to late for us non locals. I'd like to get it as soon as possible so I can look into logistics.

I registered on-line for this 10 days ago but have since heard nothing back so I'm not sure what the deal is with this ride.
Hope to hear back from them telling me I'm in.

Hi, I'm getting all exited about this ride too.
Finally having found some time to look into the gpx file and getting all frustrated, mostly about my lack of interest and knowledge in electronic gadgets. I'm owning a Garmin Vista Hcx and after finally haven gotten used to using tracks throughout the years... and this file turns out to be a 'route' instead?
so, what is the difference between both and is there a way to turn this 'route' into a track?
I know that my gps can hold 20 tracks of 500 track points but what about a route with 2800+ waypoints?
Anyone who can show me the light?

As this is coming up pretty soon now, it's more then time to start getting things sorted.
Is there somewhere where I can find FREE maps to put on my GPS for Scotland or do the locals think I can get away with just the track on the screen?
Midges... how bad can they already be that time of the year?
I'm sure I'll come up with more questions as the time comes nearer.

Revisiting this thread and getting thoughts.  I'm putting a big, big gear for a 50 miler race - depending on how it goes, I may just leave it on for the next few races.  So I'm prepared for "omg, are you crazy!?" and "hell no!" but 22 x 46 <-- too big for the Tour Divide?

It all depends on how much you want to walk I guess.
But if that's the gear you are comfortable with then you're in for the win... unless you mean 22 in the front and 46 in the back, in which case it will take you a long time to leave Canada.

Do I see that right, does the Gryphon now has eyelets for a rack in the back? It didn't used to but if so, the bike just became that much more interesting to me. Riding a Swift already and loving it.

It must have taken forever to shoot all this footage. Love the 'head in the water' scenes. It was also nice to see that you are overtaking all those transalp racers on that downhill.
