We recently rode 100 miles (https://nmbiking.blogspot.com/2017/08/mini-tour-divide-2017.html) of the tour dive in NM and my 13 year old son found a Salsa Tour Divide 2017 stem cap south of Vallecitos, NM.  Finding it was one of the highlights of the trip.  I told my son that I would post on the forum and see if any one wanted to claim it?  Other wise he has plans on mounting it on his bike.

We recently did a long weekend trip on the GDMBR in NM.  It was a great experience for all of us and I appreciate the knowledge I was able to find in these forums to help us on our first trip.   I have a write up at https://nmbiking.blogspot.com/2017/08/mini-tour-divide-2017.html

San Antonio Springs on FR 376 a few miles south from the intersection of FR 376 and FR 144 just on the west side the Valle Caldera in Santa Fe National Forest.  About 10 miles off route.

Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa 2 miles south from the intersection of NM 111 and US 285, about 17 miles off route south of Vallecitos.

We just rode from FR 376 / FR 144 to Vallecitos this last weekend.  I plan on posting a trip report with pictures.  We had to walk up some step sections while raining, just to slippery.  Outside of that we had no issues.  Enough rain that we pulled water from puddles on the road.  We were 2 adults and three teenagers.  We road from FR 144 / FR 27 to El Rito on Saturday, 50+ miles, the longest ride my 13 year old had been on up to that had been 30 miles on pavement.  FR 27 is rough a lot of water has gone through the area, but it is not impassible.  But we were going down.

All the facebook talk has almost become almost as interesting as the race...  and I hate to cause more distraction from the race, but I guess I can't help myself.  There was mention earlier of using imgur for hosting pictures and some of the pros and cons of doing so, I bring this up again since there seems to be a strong integration or support with imgur and reddit.  There is a bikepacking group on reddit and a thread for the Tour Divide 17.  When I look at social media platforms, I personally find that I tolerate reddit more than the rest, might be that it sort of feels like a forum?

I was starting to worry about the Bonita Fire, I guess I'm a bit late in my worries since the north bound group have all cleared or are at Del Norte Co.  From https://nmfireinfo.com/2017/06/14/carson-national-forest-bonita-wildfire-update-06142017/ it states:

The area within Forest roads 42, 42F and 274 is closed due to the proximity of the fire and heavy fire traffic.

The Continental Divide Trail is not within the closure area. Hikers, bicyclists and recreationists are advised that smoke may impact the area and create breathing difficulties.

The current route uses NF-42 as noted at https://maps.nwcg.gov/sa/#/%3F/36.5869/-106.1532/14, compare that to tracleaders at the intersection of 111 and 437 north of vallecitos nm

Containment is at 10%
