Planning a bike trip to New Zealand in January 2018. I'm new to the cycling world, so I'd like some advice on reputable bike brands that won't kill my wallet. I understand you get what you pay for, but what really is the difference between a £300 Carrera, £500 voodoo and £700 Boardman? I want to get from the north to south of NZ in one piece, but I don't feel I need to spend ££££ to do so.
Question 1: I've looked at some Boardmans and love their lightweight frame/feel of suspension, but wondering if there are other brands/bikes out there that are cheaper and still ride well?
Question 2: In regards to front suspension, gears, shocks and other specifics, what are some things I should avoid/absolutely consider when purchasing?
What I'm looking for:
Type: Mountain Bike [hardtail most likely] + [29er] + [size small] Budget: 350-500 Distance of trip: 3000km Terrain: All types
