I think what appeals to me most is that someone looked at the route and thought...hmm, that's not enough of a challenge....I think i'll do it on a bike without gears....
Great stuff!
If you talk to single speeders, it is unlikely you will find this as a reason, i.e. "not enough of a challenge". More likely, the common response will be closer to "I like riding a single speed, and I like pushing myself and my boundaries using my preferred bike". The same reason that people choose to push their boundaries on geared bikes, also their bikes of choice

Second the Chilcotins, but there is no resupply once you hit the single track and food pickings in bralorne/gold bridge can be thin to unavailable depending on the time you go through town. We did a trip 2 years ago and rode the Hurley from the Pemberton side to get some extra mileage before getting into the Spruce Lake trails for 2 days.
You could also ride some of the single track in Squamish, then take the sea-to-sky trail along the old Cheakamus Challenge racecourse up to Whistler, ride the Valley Trails, KMTM, maybe comfortably numb to young lust (or all of CN if you are feeling sparky!). We didn't have theopportunity to try it, but you might then be able to link into the Soo Trail and get all the way to Pemberton. We use Revelate bags and found our bikes handled so well fully loaded that we could still ride some really fun and technical trails.
The Sunshine Coast has some really good possibilities too with a nice mix of single track, logging road and proximity to towns.
We are always willing to talk and daydream about bikepacking over a beer...
Cheers, Sportsman's wife (He logged into bikepacking on my computer)

Is there still space available in your super cool ford escort wagon? even for a steel frame with only gear?
My wife won't be going tomorrow, so carpooling is suddenly a very attractive option....

Up in PDX, might just have to check it out this summer. A rad looking loop indeed.
when are you interested in checking this route out? I'm considering giving it a go in late summer/early fall....

Emily and I also used Adv. Medical Kit S.O.L. Thermal Bivies during the the CTR. we hadn;'t cut them in half, and as we were bivying just before Georgia Pass during the thunderstorm on Day 1, we were very happy to have full bivies under our tarps.....

I'm not sure that I was "bored" during the collegiate peaks wilderness detour.. spinning a 32x22 at 140+rpm in a driving rainstorm at night was enough to keep me warm

ya but you only have one gear! That seems way more hard core then sleeping on a poptart wrapper.
I recognize my own shortcomings. murphyo - that's right, sleep. and unlike DaveH from last year, I'll be sleeping with earplugs and a sign asking all riders passing me to respect quiet hours. besides, you'll be miles (and miles and miles) ahead of me... ![Smiley](http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/icon_biggrin.gif)

and moreso, how about carpooling plans to get back from Durango to Denver?

Southern Sun..
It doesn't have an official time yet (6 to 7 pm would be a safe bet), but I've been putting the word out to many of my friends in the front range area that they'll be able to find me and Emily (my wife, not Emily from the southeast) at the Souther Sun on Saturday, July 31. meaning, that at least two of the 2010 CTR racers will be there (us....), if anyone else would like to join us, meet us, carbo load on Java Porter (or any of their other delicious beverages) is invited...
I'll be wearing a black tee shirt with a picture of Johnny Cash on the chest, I'll try to convince Emily to wear a maroon tee shirt showing her opinion of singlespeeders...

Emily and I would also like to use a spot, happily making a contribution. (I may have access to Chris P.'s spot, but will still happily make a donation) ![Smiley](http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/icon_biggrin.gif)
