I biked through Maine last summer, many backroads don't allow bikes because the swarms of logging trucks.  North Maine Woods was completely blocked off with guard stations.  Anyways I don't have specific information on Katahdin Woods, but Baxter State Park was a nice ride.

It is a lot of back and fourth.  A few times I looked back to see the camera blown over by the wind  angry4 and usually if it involves going down a hill I just shoot a panoramic instead.

Hello my name is Simon and I like to do bike trips.  I'm from Canada but I have a love for riding the South Western USA.  When I'm not on an adventure I like to make my own gear.

I designed an insulated pouch to hold a 3L reservoir on the handlebars.  It has a front pocket for snacks, and a rear pocket that fits a smartphone.  The current design requires an Ortlieb Handlebar Pack to fit correctly, but it would be nice to make it universal eventually.  I offer these for sale on Etsy if anyone is interested.

Hello, wanted to share my latest creation with the community here.  This is a route that took nearly four months of effort to assemble, then another three months to ride.  It covers a large portion of the Mojave Desert and Great Basin ranging from sea level to over 10,000 ft... while crossing the most remote trails the Southwestern USA has to offer.  80% off pavement and far, far away from traffic.

The timing window is a bit tricky, I set out on Feb. 20th and finished May 20th.  Temperatures in Death Valley from March to November can be brutal.  Utah is best during the dry season April to June, however you might be encountering snow above 9,000 ft.

Expect to carry 10+ litres of water.

Backroads in the Mojave Desert are very sandy.  I was using 4.8" tires at 3 psi to stay afloat.  Utah has a few sandy sections but not as difficult.  Tubeless recommended.

Anyways here is the route:
