From FAQ page tourdivie.org What constitutes "forward on route"? If my bottom bracket seizes up 30 miles prior to Helena and I hitch a ride into Helena, not following or crossing the official GDMBR route, get the problem fixed, and return to where I left the route and continue, is that OK? If not, how far away from the route (forward) is considered "directly off route" rather then "forward on route"?

The direct answer to Bob's hypothetical is, "yes, that scenario is fine". As TD understands this 'original rule', you can even cross the GDMBR en route to help.

This rule can be problematic, even to think about. The original intent of prohibiting forward (on-route) hitchhiking is a) to prevent the reconnaissance of the route ahead and b) to severely penalize a rider for getting in a car.

Looking at map for this hypothetical into Helena  it seems to be what Erik did, but into Lima.  and that was Fine "yes, that scenario is fine". So i would think he is ok. thumbsup

Matt/Eric- Eric/Matt  the race is on! headbang  Matt is not use to having someone with him at this point in the TD.  At least they can "enjoy" each others company through this section of weather and road.  Nice job guys.  All I have to say is WOW about the pace!  I hope they don't "draft" off each other too much (rules nono). Everyone, be safe out there!

Ya :draft" LOL.. thumbsup I woulder what kind of a draft you get at there current pace of 3-4 mph. The rain and mud most be nasty. Impresive pace crazy.

Wow, ya he looks to be a mile off course and has done an extra 700 ft of climbing. Hope he gets back on track.

Teamfaeth,Not sure what you mean. If you select the individual spot for a given rider you can then click there history and see all there pings. The red line is very close to the exact route and the purple line just connects the pings for each given rider. The red line is rather accurate but you can zoom in and see the exact trail or dirt road they are traveling. Rather amazing tech. Hope this helps

Looks like we have a RACE, and a long one at that. Good luck to all TD racers, hope to see a new record set this year, and with a field this strong I am betting it will happen.  headbang
