Ergon grips and a riser bar will definitely help take some of the stress off your wrists.

Military issue rain gear. Definitely not light but will keep you dry in a monsoon, and has zippers under the arms for ventilation.

I also like my milspec poncho, which has grommets and doubles as a tarp

Via is great for those willing to shell out the cash, but the maxwell house tea bag style singles are great as well. Much stronger and flavorful than the folgers and tasters choice singles. It seems to me having singles or something instant is much easier than adding another piece of gear just to make coffee.

Thanks for the info Dan, do you know the name of the trail connecting Reudi Res to Aspen?
7  Forums / Routes / Carbondale to Denver via Crested Butte and CT on: February 25, 2011, 12:12:54 PM

Heading to Carbondale with the family in August and thinking of possibly riding back to Denver on the way home.

So far I have three possible route options and was hoping for some feedback;

Route #1

Ride south from Carbondale on HWY 133 to FS 314 and take that east through Marble and to Schofield Pass

Ride down Trail 401 and continue on into Crested Butte

South through town to FS 742 head east up to Taylor Park Reservoir and over Cottonwood Pass to Buena Vista
Pick up the CT in Buena Vista
Questions on this Route? Has  anyone ridden the west side of Schofield down to Crystal/Marble? I know it’s a heavily used 4x4 route and am wondering how ridable it is.

Route #2
Carbondale to Aspen
From Aspen take Pearl Pass into CB then continue on the same route as above to Buena Vista

Route #3
Carbondale to Aspen
From Aspen head up Castle Creek Road to connect up with FS 742d/761?? To Taylor Park Res.
Continue on to BV via same route as above
This looks like the most direct route to Buena Vista and the lowest mileage but I have no idea if this is a viable route. Anyone ridden on any of the roads north of Taylor Park Res heading towards Aspen?
Any feedback, ideas,or other routes are appreciated. I will definitely post my trip later in the summer once I complete it!

+1 for MSR....I own their Hyperflow filter, which is extremely compact and reliable. I also have used other MSR products and really like all of them
9  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: What kind of bike do you use for multi-day trips? on: November 23, 2010, 08:51:36 AM
Same bike I ride all the time...Giant Trance X1.

It's durable(have crashed it plenty), lightweight, and low cost for a trail bike. I definitely like something full suspension with 5 inches of travel. My setup is stock except for a new set of IRC 2.1 tires and the Ergon GP1 grips.

I've had the MSR Pocket Rocket for 3 years and used it bikepacking and hiking. It's light, efficient, compact and $35 brand new.

Got the etrex vista hcx earlier this year and have been happy w/ it's performance.
Inexpensive, has a color screen, is waterproof, and picks up satellites all the time in the colorado backcountry
