Forums / Routes / C&O Canal - bad news

I did the C&O canal and its not nice. The National Park Service is "fixing" the potholes & ruts in the trail. They know NOT what they are doing. NPS is ruining the trail by thowing down a ton of gravel which causes a 'quicksand' effect. The gravel swallows up your tires and slows you way down. I would rather deal with the numerous potholes & ruts than the gravel.

Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Hammocks, who knows the ups and downs of it?

I hammock all the time. Definately go to hammockforums.net - they have everything you could possibly want to know about hammocks. Hammocks are mainly for hot weather but you have to have insulation when it drops to 60degrees. The best part is being hanging anywhere there are 2 trees approx. 12feet apart. I have a Hennessy and replaced the tarp with a larger one (JRB) or sometimes use an Equinox silnylon poncho which covered me in heavy downpours.
Comfort & a night of great sleep is more important than weight. Besides you are not carrying it on your back so a few extra ounces don't matter.
