I know this is old, but from the end of TNGA it makes sense to dirt road down to the Cheaha are where there are loads of trails and then probably dirt roads down to Tallahassee, then east following the FL Trail to Ocala NF then follow the Huracan counter clockwise through Santos and Croom and back to the center of the state, then south along the Kissimmee River corridor to the Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. There are even levies around Miami to get to the southern tip of the mainland. The intrepid could continue onward to Key West.
One note to the Pisgah Traverse. It goes backward to get to DuPont, but it might make more sense to continue west and then south. I perused some maps a couple years ago and it looks like there's some good connections.
I am more interested in following a true outline or a close as possible to the ECD. That being said, there is already a north south route in Florida that goes all the way to and thru the everglades. It doesnt go through santos because the ECD doesnt really go that way, but it has a fair amount of singletrack while still following the original corridor. On top of that the route does extend to alabama, but the route basically forks after leaving felasco, one leg a much longer 1200 mile leg goes to Alabama and the 850 mile leg is the more traditional ECD route. That being said, I have all the data and I am willing to share, but the route through GA needs to be worked out and that is what is on the table at the moment. Spring of 2014 I will ride the Cross Florida Mountain Bike Route Georgia to Everglades section and then once I confirm that, the next year I will confirm the alabama route, we are trying to make sure we include as much awesomeness as possible thus the waiting on the release of that portion. I am doing my part down here and will continue north as I confirm what I got. I have a prelim GA route in the works already, but it will take a while to verify it. Like the ECD it starts on the east side of the Okeefenokee.

Well, you certainly got your adventure! Nice write up and kudos to you for lending the helping hand. It's easy to freeze up with the rangers. A simple "out for a ride" never seems to trick them eh?
Karlos has about the worst luck I've heard of in these things. I'm curious what did him in, hopefully he will post up in case it's something that affects others, although I assume it's just overexertion.
Man I should check on the internet more often, quite the discussion going on here. Let's see I will do a write up, at some point. Been busy, I constantly have a plate full of bike related stuff to do. But, Mbeardsl is 100 percent correct, I have NEVER done a bikepacking race without having some sort of misfortune. NEVER. I have overcome some, and others Have been OVERCOMED. This time I was OVERCOMED. I Probably would of kept going had Colen not came along and kind of gave me a pointer as to how serious my condition was getting. I had one bottle and 17 miles to go and I was in survival mode riding from canyon shade to canyon shade. Dont get me wrong it was a good thing, cause I was locking up, and I could pinch my skin and it would stay up where I pinched it. When I look back at the whole trip it all seems like a dream... The problems started from the beginning. I should know by now that I am destined to ride alone and I should always leave wanting to ride alone, but I took off all billy bad ass thinking I could keep up with my compadres, dugg a huge hole trying to keep up. Not only a physical hole, but a mental hole, feeling all bad that I was making them wait and such. Dumb choice on my part. Once I got to Borrego if I would of took a few extra hours to drink a alot of extra water I would of fared much better. My plan once I left Borrego was to push through as much desert in the dark cause it was just perfect at night. BUT, early in the day I started getting a weird chest pain, that later by 10 pm or so turned into a lung pain so bad, that I couldnt take deep breaths. Out of concern, and cause of persistent bad cramps that had started when I crashed before the hobbit creekwash splash through the brush, I figured I would stop and see if I could sleep it off. That next morning I did wake up feeling good. BUT, because I had underestimated my dehydration, by the time I left my camp, I was already low on water. I saw some riders ahead, hoping to get with someone to talk to and get some beta on whats ahead, I rode and rang my bell but they never slowed or responded. By the time my good friend found me I was already way on my way to fall apart mode and then it really kicked in. Anyways I saw the doctor after and the lung pain was something that starts with a C, LOL, I cant remember what she said, but it can happen from Over exertion and the dry weather, probably didnt help much, considering I live in a place that is very humid. REGardless, Stagecoach is on my revenge list and I will be back, bigger, better, smarter and UNCUT. I still had a blast and the next day I rode up Montezuma grade and had a blast in Warner Springs listening to the PCT hikers tell stories, still a great adventure and I made lots of new friends, and had the time of my life. My only suggestion is that he starts the Next one at HIGH NOON, matches well with the whole stagecoach vibe and also forces people to ride the desert at night when its cooler and safer. I'LL BE BACK!

Awesome event this weekend. I have not tallied the official times, but were looking at under 24 hours for 300 miles Shay Linder and a new women's best time by Kari Linder, the one-two wife husband duo came down from Atlanta and put a crushing on the course. Very impressive. New single speed record as well, and tons of great stories to tell. My son and I cashed in on 120 miles, after a treacherous forest crossing in heat and sand, my son was just not wanting anymore dirt. Its ok, he hung tough, I knew going in that this was possible with a 12 year old, but I also told him going in there would be no sag wagons so we still had to pedal back to the start ![Smiley](http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/icon_biggrin.gif) check out MTBCAST.com and huge thanks to the Scott MOrris and Matt Lee over at Trackleaders their support for grassroots racing is much appreciated. Greenway Cycles as well, was a ton of Help, Donald Harries is a legendary bad ass and true embassador for all disciplines of cycling.

The Tracker is up: http://trackleaders.com/huracan. also MTB Cast will be handling the call ins. Very Thankful to be part of such a great community. My son and I will attempt to capture the Tandem record for the 300 mile route. Dont worry, no all nighters for the 12 year old, we plan to speed tour it!

Thanks Rob for helping answer questions.
Rob probably knows the route better than me.
I like Captains for the Florida riding. Fast on hard pack, great in sand.

Has anyone completed it on a SS? If so anyone know what gearing, assume pretty stout given lack of climbing?
Karlos, what did you run when you attempted on a fixie?
I have done this route racing twice on a single speed fixie 29er 32 x 17. This was my first year doing it on gears..

Lessons learned ...
1. Eat before and during the 100+ miles of singletrack. (I was so busy railing the singletrack that didn't eat or drink enough) 2. Pedalling in sand is just like climbing (you slow to a crawl and sometimes it just wrecks you) 3. There are good water sources out there and lot's of gas stations with food and drinks 4. You need a BRIGHT light for the Croom and Paisley singletrack at night (lots of sand !!!) 5. Aerobars are definitely a plus ... (I wished I had them many times) 6. Put your cellphone in "Airplane mode" (you'll eat up your batteries searching for signals) 7. Be careful "jumping" the sandy crossroads in the Paisley singletrack. ( My worst "endo" ever and cracked a rib 3 miles from finish) 8. The water at Buck Lake is tannish brown and tastes funny 9. Go right of the bathrooms at Buck Lake and past the "boundary" signs to find the "rideable" singletrack 10. Jeff Tomassetti counted more than 170 downed trees (I lost count) on the singletrack prior to Buck Lake (all required dismount and I had to crawl under one of them)
Almost 19 hours on the bike and I HAD A BLAST !!!
I'm already looking forward to HuRriCan 300 in March !!!
You forgot lesson 11: Chasing an Indian aint easy. LOL BTW: The Huracan will pass through Buck Lake, I will have an updated gpx line and a map as well to help.

Looks like Matt's spot is not updating...
Bummer I cant be out there riding such a beautiful route this year, was not in the stars, hoping to be there next year maybe on a single speed, who knows.
Good luck to all the riders, I see lots of familiar names on the list!

My advice is carry as little as possible.
If you study the route well you will see that there are opportunities to seek shelter and avoid having to carry lots of sleeping gear.
I believe two riders last year went from hotel to hotel and did very well.
If I was attending this year, which I am not, unfortunately, what I would of carried was water, food, repair and only the things i could fit in my rear pack. Ultra Ultra light.
no frame bag, no front bag, just the water in my cages, and my minimalist sleep kit and rain gear.
As well remember to stock up on water after dalton, there is no real water sources till you finish the last mountain and you hit the flats. There is a creek immediately after the peak after the squirrel gap parking lot, refill there. I was able to drink straight from the creek no problems. Thats your last water for a good long while.
thats it for my 2 cents good luck I will be watching.

The old section from the gila to silver city was pavement the whole way.
the new section includes signal peak and a ton of singletrack and burly jeep road.
I would say the new section(CDT)would be alot more time consuming since hike a biking is required in parts.
Its one of the few sections of the divide I got to ride this year and it was my absolute favorite, my kind of riding right there!!!
