The 5th annual San Jacinto Enduro (or 6th if you count last year's ride, cancelled to fire) is going off October 19th.
This year's ride will be our first ever in-town start, and follows traditional self-supported rules.

-- We've been calling it "Enduro" since 2009 because all the "endurance" names in the area were already taken. Regardless of what that name might lead you to believe, this ride is a big day on the bike.
Loop 1 is right around 50 miles with about 6,000ft of gain. Very Western. (rough, a good bit of cow trails, etc)
Loop 2 (optional) is around 20 miles of techy, slow progressing singletrack.

In between those loops we will be able to pitstop at our own start/finish area.

No prize, no entry fee. BUT- we have a $25 suggested donation to the Idyllwild Outdoor Eduction Booster Club. Info on the registration site. They are a super legit, longstanding, proactive fixture of the community, bringing middle school kids on field trips for a couple decades now. We feel the ride is worth paying for, and this helps pay back the community as we see Idyllwild blossom into a "mountain bike town."

Check it out. Registration opens Monday.
We will only accept a total of 69 riders. FWIW the 2012 event filled in under 24 hours.
We will not allow even one more rider than that, sorry.

Have fun!

Um, wasn't talking beer for you.
I was referring to the beer for me.

Forest, I didn't see any beer here.
Did you stash it somewhere as a surprise?

Tell them we sent you.

This year's ride departs April 26th from Cafe Aroma in Idyllwild, CA. It has some route changes. There's a suggested donation of $20 to the Idyllwild Community Fund. The ride is badass.

They did it! They're in under the 5 day cutoff late last night. Must've been a chilly ride. Can't wait to hear about it.

I'd guess they were at the Lake Henshaw market, not Warner Springs.
Warner Springs is still closed as of the last time I rode through there, a few weeks ago.

Andrew just stopped in the shop. He pulled out at the bottom of Noble (they went on the old route for that part) and sounds like he had a pretty good trip... Coyote Canyon & Fish Creek are worth the trip if you ask me. ;-)
The other guys are near Chihuahua Valley road now, about 3:30... it's rainy, windy, and wet out there, good hypothermia conditions. Sounds like Mark is taking the ITT pretty seriously and will stay on it to the end. They're on a decent pace still, considering they're riding Fatbikes.
They have until 6:30 AM tomorrow to make the 5 day cut off!

I haven't heard anything from them, but it's been sleeting all day here in Idyllwild.

They spent last night in Pamo Valley. Pretty area, more cows than people. It's climby from there out, all the way home to Idyllwild. Today's weather isn't good. Raining now, snow to come later, down to 4,000 ft.

Looks like they stopped in the forest land just short of Descanso. Overnight temp was warmer than it has been lately, but wet & drizzly.
Great breakfast in Descanso awaits at Veronica's Cafe.

The last track I saw had them turning on to Hapaha Flat. It'll throw some tough bits at them but could get them to the RV park by 10am.
They'll have a chilly day in the mountains for sure, but the riding could be very good.

They're doing it!
Mark is logging a Time Trial effort on Trackleaders. Check it out: http://socalenduro.wordpress.com/2012/12/23/mark-allens-holiday-itt-of-stagecoach-400-route/

It's your oyster!
But you might start by having a look at the Stagecoach 400 route from the city heading East, or from Torrey Pines heading East.
From Idyllwild, we of course have plenty of options, either overnight, or two nights.

The wait list is very long. We will shake things out over the next week and set the start list in stone. We won't have a wait list after that.

Update: the San Jacinto Enduro is FULL.
We will have a wait list going.

Our one day intro to self-supported events. The Enduro is a swift kick in the pants that requires you to plan your day on the bike, navigate & read cues, and support yourself for a (very hard) 80 miles.
Registration just opened today.

As somebody intimately familiar with the route, yes I'd say it *could* be great, but there's just a good likelihood it won't be optimal. You'll have cold temps in the mountains for sure, but even so you might be able to plan around spending your nights at lower elevations. (it's California, you'll have that luxury)
Even if you can't ride the whole route, you'll certainly have portions of it in great shape.

Get in touch with me for the GPX file. I'm re-doing it very soon with some important changes. Once that's done in about a month I'll make it available for public download.

We've had more rain in the last couple days. Snow last night in the mountains. Icy morning here in Idyllwild today, snow in the higher neighborhoods of town. I'd imagine the mountains around Julian are getting the same.
