Nice effort out there Jim...It's always fun to read the reports. I remember being cooked on the Bitter Brush and Rose Garden sections last year and it was prob 10-15 degrees cooler than what you experienced. If I have my stats straight, its about 120 mi to Hideout, so for you to make it in 24 hrs in that heat is impressive. Way to go.

I was thinking riding north on rampart range road from garden of the gods, all the way to it's northern terminus where the colorado trail starts, ... Thoughts?
I've often thought about this route, but starting from my house in Denver and going to my Mom's in the Springs. Have you ridden the RR Rd? Is it full of ATV'rs and motorcycles or is it OK for MTB'rs? I have not heard of ring the peak. I like the sound of that... Any sites with a map?

Awesome. Congrats on finishing a still-pretty-grand loop out there. How did you know about the FS668 shortcut? See it on a map? The GPS?
I've always wondered about that connection -- Chad noted how close we were to the route when we were up on the divide road.
Thanks, Scott. It was a grand ride! I scoped out that cut off last year when we were planning try #1. I saw it on the BLM map and then Chris was able to trace it right off Google Earth and load it into his GPS. We were actually pretty amazed at how well it worked out. The top hike-a-bike part was hard, but the views and terrain going up were amazing! Gosh...I wonder if any of you super fast riders could do the loop we did in 48 hours or less??? Going fast on that hike-a-bike could be the make or break . Hmmmm...

Quick update...Chris and I finished our grand loop (not the Grand Loop) after a HUGE day at 4:10am today. What a trip it was. Made it to Dewey at end of 16 1/2 hr first day and then realized at the end of day two when we only got in 20 mi. that we'd have to cut short, given the time we had. We rode up Spring Cr mesa on day 3 and took a great, albeit difficult short cut (FS668) straight up the Plateau to Divide Rd; last ~3.5 mi were hike a bike, but otherwise most of it rideable. But, was it gorgeous! So blown away by the views from up there! Another great stretch was from Hideout to La Sals.... started beforee dawn that day and got very cool early morning views. The flowers, huge ponderosas and aspens in La Sals are awesome. OK, whose crazy idea was it to put the Whitewater to Tab TH section in there?? Ugh that was tortuous; took us from 9pm to 4 am, running on fumes. Whew! Done. My congrats to all the riders this year!

Whoa...I am inspired by everyone's rides out there! Dave and Jefe... 2 1/2 days?...Yowza! Piper and I are starting on Thursday morning for, hopefully a less than 5 day tour. Doing the Bedrock route, "normal" direction. We have a SPOT, so if y'all are inclined to cheer for us, maybe, just maybe, we'll gather the + energy for success. We were leaving on Wed AM, but decided to wait a day on account of the mud reports. bp Almost forgot... Chris is raising money for Parkinsons Research. All righty--Chris and I will be shoving off on June 3rd early am. We are shooting to be done late Saturday, but have Sunday to finish the tour if we're hang-doggin it. We will hopefully be set up on Mr Morris' spot page. Good luck to everybody! ..I really want to be able to share our success story this year!
