1  Forums / Ultra Racing / Tour Divide starts soon, and brings back memories. on: June 08, 2014, 02:42:24 PM
Hey guys,

I did tour divide back in 2011.  I was 22 years old and was just out to finish it.  30 days was fine enough for me.

I've got friends racing the Trans Am currently and a few gearing up for Tour Divide in a few days.  Wish I could have joined either of them!

I wrote down my experiences from the eyes of a complete novice.  Hell, I'd never even seen snow or a mountain or anything like that until I did Tour Divide.

I think it might show the race in another perspective. And for anyone out there racing it this year, good luck! Hope the weather is great!

So I'd first like to start this by saying I am in no way ready for this race.

I've never bike packed, but I have everything I need.  I've only put in a few 100 mile days and my training ground is the flattest piece of land you'll ever see.

The most snow I've ever run across was in a 12 hour race earlier this year, and it was maybe half an inch.

I have been too busy with school to get in any real long distance mountain biking training in, and my last race was a triathlon.

So yes, I am not ready at all.  But I am so extremely excited to have my ass handed to me on this race.

Howdy guys,

My name's Nick and I recently graduated college down here in Texas. I will be "Competing" in Tour Divide 2011 (And it is in quote simply because if I finish it I'd be thrilled) in a month or so and I had a question about getting myself and my bike to Banff.

I was thinking of packing it up and shipping it to Banff, then getting a plane ride to Calgary and renting a car to Banff.  This is a tentative plan that I haven't actually worked out yet. I've got a room in Banff for the night of the 9th, before the grand depart.

How's everybody else doing it, though?  Since this is all new to me I am completely open for suggestions.

Thank you.
