I cant seem to sell an amazing creation (Pain/Chamois cream) to bikepackers/cyclists to save my life, but EVERYONE else loves it.

Just submitted my order - Thanks for the reminder

If you sell to much Toby may report you to the Bikepacker police for using this forum as an unauthorized way to get your product out to people who may actually want to use it - and would never knew it existed otherwise!

I know what will make Toby happy - Adam give your book away for free but charge a $3 convenience fee for digital delivery.  Then everyone will be happy and we can all go ride using Toby's Free GPX

Bottom line is this - If you want something and it is useful to you and you can afford it, then buy it. If you don't want it, then ignore it just like 99% of all the banner adds you see on web sites. They are there to keep the site up and running. Just like this site does.

Choices, it is all about choices - Please don't tell me how or what I should spend my $ on in order to make you feel better about your choice not to buy a book.  BTW - I do not plan on buying Adam’s book, but I am glad I have the choice if I wanted to!

I also have to agree also about the On One frames, for the price they can't be beat. ( I have one of the 1st generation models also)

I purchased one about 7-8 months ago to build up to replace my old bikepacking bike. But as I was waiting for all of the new parts to come in, I stumbled ac cross my dream bikepacking bike (lynskey ti ridgeline 29er) for a VERY good price. As it stands now I have a large inbread 29er in a box unused that I need to sell - for a good price

My version has swap drops, rack mounts and 2 water Bottle mounts

Contrail for me. Packed size. And when I use it for hiking i'll have trekking poles for the front.

Bike-vt : Im thinking about getting the contrail because of the listed pack size.  If you add the tent poles are you able to keep the same pack size or is it longer/longer?

Did you ever consider the ultralight, it looks to have the same pack size. If you did, why did you go with the contrail?

Thanks
5  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Bike choice for CT on: November 30, 2011, 07:19:13 PM
You will like the Jet9, I plan on using my Jet on the CT. (someday)  IMO - I think it will make a great bikepacking bike.  The last multi-day trip I did was in AZ, for that trip I used a Steel Spot (made in the US version)  I was VERY disappointed in the frame and how it performed.  In short the bike felt like a wet noodle under me all the time and was all over the place on technical descents.  I absolutely love the bike on single track riding, but once you add all of the gear the frame was just too flexie.  Be sure to try your steel bike fully loaded on technical descents before you make the commitment to use it on the CT.

For the Jet you may have to get custom bags made for it.  I tried putting on a Revelate designs tangle bag and gas tank on the top tube with out any luck. I had lots of problems mounting the front strap to the bike head tube.  If you come across something that works please let me know.

Eric - This light http://www.geomangear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_19_22&products_id=319 is by far the best light I have ever used or seen.  The construction and weight are excellent.  I rode the whole coco loop with it on my helmet and could not even tell it was there.

If you got a second batt. you could have 100 hour of run time...

As far as the comments on Bill Williams Mountain I can agree - I didn't know Bill Williams, he may have been a nice guy, but I've been mountain biking on his mountain and it sucks. Every time I drive by I can't look at it because of the memories I have hike-a-biking up it and down it. There's got to be something better around that area. But if it's on the 250 route I'll do it - I'll just be cussin' Bill's name as usual.

Eric - Sorry to hear about your frame, That really sucks!  I would still like to meet up while I am out there.  Send me an email with your phone # and I will give you a call when I get done on Tuesday.  I will be leaving from absolute bike shop Friday afternoon about 2pm if you work near there, stop by and say Hi.

Chad - I was not expecting SNOW!  Did it stick or will it be gone by Friday?

So your plan is to ride for about 10 hours a day for 3 days or are you going nonstop (or as long as you can) for an ITT of the course.

I was going to ask you where I should camp the first day, because I will only be able to ride about 5-6 hours the first day and will not make it to the end of the 1st stage. (which should be about 40 miles in if I go by your avg. 8 mph)

How quick is the trail in the beginning?

My goal for the 2nd day was to make it from that point to the end of the 2nd stage and camp out. Do you thing that is doable?

What kind of time did you get off for the weekend?  Are you still going to do the loop or just part of it?

I sent my bike a few days ago to absolute bike shop in flagstaff, if all goes well,it will be built and ready to go when I get there.

Thanks for the update on the temps.  I am still going to bring a coat, leg and arm warmers for at night and mornings.

I second the rotating picture idea. Also user uploaded pictures would be a great idea also.

Not a big fan of having closeup pics of people, but a biker in the distance is cool.

Also adding location & GPS coordinates of the pictures would be a nice added touch.

Thanks for the good info on the local temps. That is what I needed to get an idea of What to bring.  Good thing because, I was not expecting it to be that cold.

All things considered I do well in the cold, but it will be a shock to my system coming from Florida where we had a heat index over 100* yesterday, and have not seen lows below 60 for over 2 months (at night).

Do you get much rain this time of the year?

Eric - I see that you live in flagstaff, what kind of tempatures can I expect on the loop?  Just want to make sure don't over pack but want to stay warm if needed.

Thanks for your help

If I can't get off work then I will be riding it at a fast pace, only have 3 days off work for that weekend. Sad  But if I get my vacation time that I requested I might join ya and do it in stages.

My plan is to leave on Friday the 13th about 3p and get back to flagstaff about 3-4p on Tuesday the 17th (not the best way to brake up the ride but I will be coming from South Florida, and it takes a long time to get there)  You are welcome to join me for all or part of the ride.  I will generally ride hard until I find something cool to look at then stop.  or maybe we can meet up after I get back to flagstaff and talk about the ride.

BTW Great job on the AZT, I will see you there next year!

Eric,  I will be starting the loop on May 13th myself.  I fly in to Phoenix at about 10 am and will be taking the shuttle to flagstaff getting in around 1p - 2p. from there I will getting my bike from a local shop then hitting the trail by 3p if all goes well.  I have planed to spend 4 nights out.  If you would like to meet up let me know.

Hi, like Chequamegon I am planing on doing the coco loop also, but just about one month later. I will be starting on May 13. This will be my first time biking in AZ and first multiple day bikepacking trip.  After reading some of the above posts, it got me wondering what kind of temps I should expect?  I'm coming from south Florida so some of the cold temps I've been seeing have me a bit worried. When I researched the weather history of this area I found highs around 60 - 65 & lows around 40 - 45. Does this seem about right?

Thanks for the help

MC:

Thanks for taking the time to put that video together for us.  I have thought long and hard of where I wanted to take my solo vacation this year, this loop is my pick for this year, after seeing your video I am even more inspired for this trip.  I will be on the trail May 13th and plan to do the loop in 4 days,  by the way you were talking that sound quite doable.  Coming from South Florida this is going to be quite different riding conditions than I am used to.... I can't wait!

19  Forums / Routes / Cococino Loop in May -Would like a new starting point. on: February 21, 2011, 09:07:56 PM
My plan so far is to fly into Phoenix and drive to flagstaff and start the loop, but it looks to me I could cut off 30 - 40 miles of driving from the airport if I jumped on the loop somewhere near the highway 17, maybe by Sedona. Is this possible and where would you recommend parking the car and start the trail? Or is it just better to start in flagstaff, for what ever reason.

That is a great looking design, just what I was looking for.

Please make some, because I want one.
