Funny. I logged in today after a long hiatus to post the same thing.

1x9 gearing? Not sure where you live/ride but that sounds brutal for here in Colorado. 1x10 with a Praxis cassette will get you lower gearing (40 or 42t).

I tried 1x11 on the the older Krampus but chain/tire rub was too annoying

I'd look at the new Karate Monkey. Relatively inexpensive and does everything you talk about wanting to do.

***SOLD***

Frame/fork only....

$350 + actual shipping from 80120 (US only)

Surly Karate Monkey in fantastic shape. Purchased as a frameset so it comes with all the relevant MDS chips that were around at the time of shipping. Run it SS, 135, or 142X12. Even includes the 12mm thru axle and nuts($40 part on it's own). I ran it as SS but bought it with options in mind. Would be a killer bikepacking rig. Comes with matching rigid fork as pictured. Couple of rock chips and scratches but nothing major.

Awesome spray tan color which is translucent and allows the weld marks to show through.

I'm 5'6" and it fits perfect but I imagine a couple inches either way is no issue.

Thanks. The finish has to be seen in person to truly be appreciated.

According to Surly it is suitable for 5'4 to 5'8. My son is 5'8 and fits him fine. I am 5'6 and it fits me fine.

They do rub on my seatbag.
13  Forums / Bikepacking / Brooks and seat bags on: January 05, 2015, 07:43:58 AM
Those of you who run Brooks saddles with the seatbag loops as well as seatbags like revelate, what are you doing to make them play nice together? I've been using electrical tape on the loops or swapping saddles for trips. I have some ideas kicking around but figure someone else has already tackled this problem.

17  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: 27.5 mt bike bike packking gear? on: August 25, 2014, 12:17:06 PM
Revelate Pika requires 6.5" of clearance between saddle and tire. Not sure if that is your compressed measurement or not.
18  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: CTR 2014 - Race Discussion on: August 14, 2014, 08:01:52 AM

Was just on the phone with Jeff Hemperley, he said that the last good bail point would be Hillside Drive (rd 436) off of hwy 145. He could take a two right turns and be to a car within a mile. After that he is kind of committed.

I am hoping that I hear from him again before that opportunity passes. He has called every time he feels uncomfortable so I wouldn't doubt he will call again soon-ish.

Tell him he's a badass as far as we are concerned no matter what he decides.
19  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: CTR 2014 - Race Discussion on: August 14, 2014, 07:37:58 AM
I really hope that he doesn't permanently injure himself
He is young and had a lifetime of riding ahead of him
Any pain that rates  10 is likely very serious.

Been a few years but I don't recall a spot where you can bail from where he is at. I don't even see any side roads on the map.
20  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: CTR 2014 - Race Discussion on: August 14, 2014, 07:08:01 AM
He's at MM 527.8. How far to the finish? Really hope he can pull through after such a monster effort.
