Karen, Just talked to Norb from the Great Basin and Dan just caught a ride into Rawlins. The were about 70 miles out. Norb said he had a big smile on his face and seemed relieved to be done. Just couldn't get past the stomach issues. Norb enjoyed riding with him and getting to know him. Great having company out there too! Take care and give Dan our best! thumbsup

Oh, that is awesome news.  thumbsup I am looking forward to his call to get him home safe and sound. THANKS A MILLION for the update  icon_biggrin

Karen Simas - Thanks from Eve, Norb's wife, for the note regarding Dan and Norb riding together and camping last night! It makes me feel better knowing Norb isn't out there by himself and I know he appreciates some company, especially going through the Basin!  Was wondering where Dan's spot is? I also don't see him on the active racers list. Wonder if he got removed accidentally since he is obviously still moving forward?

Norb sent a photo via IPhone from his dinner stop in Atlantic City yesterday. Dan must be the person pictured with Norb.

Hi, Dan did not purchase a spot tracker for the race. Not sure why he is not on the active rider list but I think he might be calling it in today. He has been dealing with some bad stomach issues and has not been feeling well for the past 6 days Sad Dan called from the Basin and Norb had pulled away from him Smiley All good. Dan is taking it easy into Rawlins and will probably do a call in on MTB cast at that time. Yes, I agree, it is good when you hear your loved one is riding with someone else. Always good to have. Yeah, that must have been Dan in the photo Smiley

Just wanted to do a quick shoutout to my husband - Norb DeKerchove from Boise, Idaho. For anyone tracking him in the Driggs, Victor area of his short pass through the home state, many thanks! He said you all were amazing in your interest and willingness to help him out with anything he might need. Seems several folks had been watching for him down there and greeting the native son with open arms. Wish I could have been there too. He's doing great though and getting near the halfway point slogging through the Great Basin tonight. Still riding 9 minutes ago. occasion14 We salute you - every night precisely at 8 p.m. with cheers and drinks in your honor, Norb!

Hi, this is Karen, Dan Simas' wife, and I have been watching Norb since his is riding with Dan. He called tonight to say that they had stopped for the night in the basin. They had a good ride today  thumbsup

Just some info on My husband, Daniel Simas....Dan, who is riding in this race without a spot tracker, is an amazing athlete and has raced most of his life. Triathlon team in college, completed an Iron Man and has raced 3 marathons in Antarctica. (Antarctica is where we both do contract work.) I am so happy that he was able to enter this race this year. He has been talking about it for about 3 years and it is so exciting to follow him and the other riders. We just completed a bike tour across New Zealand and Asia and I know I hold him back  icon_biggrin It is great that he is free to go as fast as he wants. Currently he is having some stomach issues, which has slowed him down, but he is hoping he will be good to go again tomorrow. GO DAN! GO!
