Eat, Sleep, Ride was my favorite so far. I loved the author's sense of humor. The cordillera's were all pretty good, but since each story is submitted by a different rider, the quality varies quite a bit. I liked them all & would recommend any of them, but I think of those, the first one was my favorite. I haven't read enough of Dividing the Great to say one way or the other yet.

I did a forum search & didn't see this topic anywhere. I'd be interested to hear of any books published about the Tour Divide. I've real all the Cordillera series (or at least the first 4, I don't think there is a 5th one out yet), as well as Paul Howard's Eat, Sleep, Ride, and have just started Dividing the Great by John Metcalfe, but that is the last Tour Divide related book I know of. I'm assuming there are more out there. Does anyone know of any? Or if this has been discussed before, would someone be kind enough to point me to the discussion. I did a forum search of "Tour Divide Books" but it didn't bring back what I was looking for.
Also, I'm looking for books (or ebooks, not websites or blogs) as I'm looking for stuff to read when I'm not online.

Not a fan of having someone editing political content of the calls. But I'm also not a fan of people feeling the need to make political comments about every single damn thing. I listen to the MTB cast(s) & check out the bikepacking forums to find out about the Tour Divide, not the political leanings of any particular rider. I do appreciate the heads up on the Sarah Palin rant, I just deleted Stephen Huddle's call in from my playlist (haven't listened to any calls yet over the weekend) & will be doing the same if I get a heads up about any other political rants (either side of the aisle). No sense letting that get in the way of my daily tour divide fix.
Now, Go Justin!

I think that most of the people who are interested enough to go out & meet a rider on the trail are interested enough in the race that they are following the Bikepacking thread as well as the tracking. There were several posts early on about "I'd like to go out & cheer on the riders, do you think it's OK?" The consensus at the time was 'yes it's ok' & from those who had ridden before 'I really enjoyed it'. It's probably one of those things that is/was cool when it was only a few people. I'm sure the positive responses helped sway people to go out & cheer on the riders. As that started to become more frequent, it became an issue. Now that the word is out that it was not always appreciated, I think the number of visitors will decrease.
It would also be good to get some info from the riders farther in. I'm excited for the whole race & all the racers, but was certainly more interested in the race at the front between Kurt, Jefe, Ethan (& Paul up North). People farther back likely have fewer people coming out to meet them & it may not be a distraction at all for them.

It seems like Tony Cervati & Justin Simoni would be naturals for a chapter in the 3rd edition, should there be one. Also, it would be pretty cool to have Jefe & Kurt both write chapters about their respective races. I don't want to hijack the thread again but I just have to share this: 24 copies of the Cordillera sold last night!
We are closing in on $2,000 going directly to Linnaea Blumenthal's 529 college savings plan.
The book is truly worth buying for its own entertainment value but supporting Dave's daughter feels great too.

Since we're making predictions, I'm going with Kurt for the SB. It will be interesting to see who finishes first Kurt/Jefe/ Ethan or Paul going North.
For the southbound route, I'm thinking Kurt since Ethan is currently around 100 miles behind. Not an insurmountable lead, but certainly a factor. Adding that to the fact that they were all riding together a few days ago, and it seems like things are not trending his way. Assuming that Jefe & Kurt are relatively equal physically, it just seems like Kurt (barring any mechanicals) is going to have the advantage with gears down the line. As I remember it from the last few years, the end of the route is pretty flat. I'd assume that gears would help in that situation both in a head or tailwind, as you can adjust for the conditions.
Granted, I know nothing about Single Speeds, so my theory could be completely wrong, but it just seems logical.
All that being said, it's exciting to see such a large group of riders still in contention this far into the race. And everyone seems super nice from their call ins that I'll be happy for Paul/Kurt/Jefe/Ethan or whoever crosses the line first.

I just got the same message. I think it's something technical on the other end. I'd imagine that the sys admin got an email about it & is working on the problem now.
