I found some today by searching for medical gel padding.  Some talk about it being used in gloves etc. Ralyon I think was the brand.

Anyone make their own gloves? Curious how I'd go about finding any of the gel-type materials for sale.  Apparently I've stumped google so far with my queries...

I had put one together a cpl years ago but never got the chance to ride it. Nobody has ridden the full length to my knowledge as some sections are either heavily suggested to not bike or outright prohibited.  Good idea to call their office and chat with the folks. Very helpful when I spoke with them. I'll see if I can find the files tonight when I get home.

A small amount of vodka does the trick too. Or anything fairly flavorless.  Don't need much, maybe an ounce at most for a standard bottle.  Mine only freeze if it drops below 10 for a couple hour ride.  Upside down storage mentioned above helps too. Bar Mitts make a neoprene bottle cover but I haven't used them.

Keep in mind the lowest legal Rohloff input ratio is good for the power of a pro-racer. So most people can safely go lower.

The hub is protected by replaceable shear pins so absolute worst case you aren't destroying your hub. I haven't run into anyone with a Rohloff who has actually sheared those pins.
+1

I'm 240 and run a Rohloff on my 36er at 32x16 on single track etc.  I'm in no way a pro but put out decent power (ftp=350) mainly because I'm big.  WAY outside warrantied range with that big of a wheel but gives me a decent range and no issues with too much torque shearing the pins.  For lighter folks I wouldn't be worried at all.

*bump* - gonna try for this again on May 4/5! Company welcome! Suffering! Backcountry! Epicness!

Did you ever get this thing done?  Would love to hear about it if so.

Mount to the steerer tube of your fork, above the stem. May need a spacer between the bars and stem.  Unless you have a different style of Freds?

For what purpose?  Cruising around or full on expedition?

Do what the CX skiers and snow runners do with a simple plastic sled?  Can cut off the back if it's too long.  Could even add skis to it but probably not needed.  You'd need to figure a way to pull it properly (from hip width and crossing poles) so it doesn't fishtail like crazy.

1.)  If someone does an ITT remote to the Grand Depart, say outside the month of June, can they still say they've done the Tour Divide?  Clearly course records are recognized under those circumstances, but does someone still say they've done the TD?

Yes.  Like saying you've done the Appalachia Trail (but in a race mode).

Not sure how that number is calculated. May include their actual mileage with stops, detours, etc and not a mile marker type of number?

Does anyone know how much longer the new route into Butte took on average? On trackleaders it shows almost 80mi longer-wow. We may need an asterisk on the fastest times. That is kind of a big deal. Either way congrats to all the finishers and those that gave it a go.

Not sure how you got there, but no way it's 80 miles longer.  It's only 33 miles from Basin to Butte.  Somewhere above in this thread Mathewsen had noted it's about 1.5 hours longer than the old route based on people's times taken to complete that section this year vs last.

So will Jefe's time be the second fastest ever for the complete route?  Couldn't find 2011 and 2012 times anywhere to compare those years.  SO impressive to be out front for so long, pushing alone and digging deep.

Edit, double post.

Its just not posted anywhere.  JayP and T-Race did it in 18d and 5h with change (don't quote me) a cpl years ago.  2011 or 2010?  Kurt and Caroline had some issues during their run and weren't able to top that time, I think in 2012. Not sure of any other challengers?

Love your input JayP!  And yes, it comes through pretty clear you want to be out there again Wink

Allllllright... Is this the big pull we've been waiting for?  I'm keeping fingers crossed for a steady slope on Jefe's Race Flow through the end.  If ANYONE can do it, it's him.  He's cut 2 hrs off his projections in the last 8 or so but not sure that means much either way.

And boy o boy is Calvin putting on the afterburners!

You have to remove a part from your bicycle every 50 miles. Who can ride a wheelie the furthest, without a saddle?
