1  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Which Tarptent? on: December 23, 2011, 05:40:44 PM
Thanks to those posting up responses that are related to the original post.  This thread is for information on Tarptent's line of shelters.  Not bivys.  Not tarps.  Let's not muddle up future search results.
Back on topic.  Why did you choose the Moment over the other choices?

Won't the ventilation gaps at the bottom and the doors allow the humidity/condensation to exit?

I'm looking for feedback on the Tarptent solo tents.  Who has one?  Likes?  Dislikes?  Anyone have a double that they don't find to bulky/heavy for solo outings?  So many models and not so sure on the differences.
Thanks,
Jesse

Would also trade this wheel for a rigid carbon 29er fork.

29er of course

I would say 32/16 or 17. Suck it up on the singletrack but really appreciate it on the road and 2track.

I have a Lefty wheel here with the hopes that one day I would get a Lefty.  Not gonna happen.  I'd like to trade it towards bike stuffs.

What I have:
Black Lefty hub
Stan's Arch rim
Silver alloy nipples
DT Swiss Competition silver spokes
The wheel only has ~100 miles on it and was professionally built

What I want: (willing to trade up/down/partial)
Hennessy hammock
Open to shelter offers?

I'd be all about this ride, but not to tour it at someone else's pace and pay money for amenities I'd rather not use.  I'd rather bikepack it using my own gear and resupplies.  $20 for a .gpx sounds fair...

My hardest part was boredom.  I had some cramping 80-120 that went away once I up'ed my Gatorade and food intake.  I had a sore butt at 60+, but it never got overly sore.  I was just bored.  I will have tunes for the Huracan fo sho.

it's about 160-worth on the GA side open to bikes.  I'll be bikepacking it with a bunch of like-minded miscreants in March and I'll let you know how it goes.  Also, another vote for SingleTrack Samurai Productions.

Who's in for Florida's CFITT?  See you out there!

The question is not moot.  I am searching for a GPS that will run on AA when not plugged into my dyno hub, but will still allow functionality when plugged into the USB charger.  Some will bypass the batteries and allow them to remain at their present charge state while on AC power, while others will enter a USB-computer mode that changes it into a storage device and disables the GPS functions.

Will your 550 operate while plugged in/charging?

November and beyond.  I like the quilt idea, but I thought the whole purpose was to get something that doesn't compress (see edit)?  Although I do like the idea of not having to deal with packing something semi-rigid like a pad/mat.
Rob - your hammock packs BIG!  If I get one, hopefully they offer it in non-gangly size:)
As for the Visqueen or Tyvec...you're speaking Greek, I'm off to the googlewebs.
EDIT - Looks like Home Depot sells it, but holy crap that's a lot of Tyvec to only need a little bit of it.
Oh, under quilts are something that hangs on the outside of the hammock.  Genius.  Now their price needs to come down.

I'm looking for some advice on a sleeping pad for >30* in a hammock.  I remember reading about using a half-length foam pad under a full-length truck reflective visor, but I can't find any information again.  Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks,
Jesse

I only know that it was handcrafted by trebor with love and is infused with awesomesauce.  I know less than that and have used it even less.

I did a hundie a couple weeks ago, about 60 of it being singletrack, and at the end I regretted not having varying hand and butt positions.  With aerobars, the positions are full tuck (still not nearly as laid out as on a roadbike in a tuck), standard, and hands on the elbow pads for an even more upright position.  I'll take a pic looking down once I get the sling/drybag mounted up and figure out the rest of the cockpit.

IMO, at 40 mile days, you will most likely be fine without them.  Unless it's windy.  Or you knock out 40 miles in 2 hours.

This rig is finally coming together for some epic FL ultras.  I borrowed some aerobars, unfortunately the elbow pads don't move to the rear so they will have to do until I can get some Profile's.  Bags are DIY from another forum member.  Front wheel is Schmidt Son28IS for da jigawatts.

I'm looking forward to racing the Singletrack Samurai Series starting next month with the Cross Florida ITT and ending in February with the Huracan 300.  If you see this bike and a noob atop it, feel free to say hello.
