Have the same problem bro it gets real bad in the cold. When its cold I ride with a buff over my mouth to warm the air and that helps a lot. However I have yet to sort it out on the hot days. One thing I have noticed is the longer I take to warm up the longer I can go before it happens. What really sucks is its hard to tell if it's the asthma or I'm just bonking from lack of calories or poor digestion. cause they kinda end with the same effects.

I have exhaustively studied the subject of riding with a backpack and shared the opinion that it was the best way. That was until I started using a Heart rate monitor. The HRM showed me definitively that when it comes to "my body" the pack increases stress over time. My HR will spike even if I feel fine and will not go back down with reduced effort "active rest". However with the backpack off when my effort exceeds my fitness I can just slow down to recover. I realize this may not be the case for everyone, but I would encourage people to do there own tests to optimize there ride and keep the body stress minimal. A link to my article on the subject. http://bikepackinglife.com/bikepacking-tip-1-backpacks-get-heavier-mile-by-mile

Thanks for the info. I purchased one of those Tamron 18-270mm lenses so I could carry only one lens on my trips. But it's bulky and not very sharp so lately been rocking the 35mm 1.8f fixed.
I'm starting to make bags so I'm trying to concept a bikepacking photo bag. But will be on hold till after CFITT this November.

The difference between "off-road touring" and "bikepacking" is that "off-road touring" is three words with an awkward character and "bikepacking" is one easy term to sum up the fact that we like to ride our bikes and we like to go backpacking if we can do both then win win.
When I go bikepacking (or what ever anyone wants to call it. how about "Multi Terrain Cycle Touring") Im free and I point my wheel in the direction of my desire weather that be pavement, single track, fire road, mud, sand, snow, gravel, stream, swamp, flatland, upland.......

Great shots!!!! Do take a DSLR and if so what size lens? I only ask because I noticed the nice shallow depth of field on a few of your pics.
Thanks for sharing Mike R

I love my 2bliss
Just a word of caution on the stans valve stems. Make sure you support your pump well at the valve stem when using a hand pump. I recently had the top of the stem break off inside my pump from excessive movement wile pumping. It was a nail biter because I was half way on my 25mi work commute. However the good news was it did not let the air out so I nervously made it to work. Now I cary a spare valve and went to a non removable core (cause its hefty). If I need to put stans in on the go I use the 2oz bottle with a small piece of clear tubing that slips in the side of the rim, it only breaks the bead by 3mm so i'm still able to use a hand pump
By the way i'm not saying not to use the removable valves just making you aware that they are a little weaker at the top under the flat points. Mike

Funny that you think that there is not much Mt biking in Florida, home to the CFITT, Hurican 300 and The Nakid Indian ride! Two of witch are bikepacking events that draw riders from all over the U.S.. Santos was just named number six in the top ten winter destination rides MBA magazine. We also have a decent size list of "Tour Divide" finishers! Karlos at bikeworks in Orlando is starting in Banff for the GDMBR this year as well as Steve Martine from south fl (Steve rode and finished last year, now he's headed Banff to better his last ride). And I live in Oviedo and have personally logged 1,000s of miles many with overnights. http://youtu.be/cBTzlJeDZZgThe pic is Karlos myself and Steve Martine at the start of an 80mi CFITT training ride. The other is my CFITT setup.
