Forums / Question and Answer / hard tail or full rigid for great divide ride?

as i look at various setups of riders who have done the gdr i see some bikes with rigid forks.being new to this i assumed there must be miles of washboard road and i would want a suspension fork, accepting the weight and potential problems for the added comfort but i know i don't know.so i'm hopeing some of you who have experienced this sort of thing might offer some advice? thanks

my two cents on water,i have used the steripen two years now and love it,no taste, drinking in 90sec.' small',great support from the co.when i had a problem with an earlier model.but i wish i had the one that takes AA batt. on remote trips when you may resupply at a gas station the 123s are hard to find. if you go with the bivi make sure it has a way to keep the bug netting of your face or the little bast. will bite you right thru the screen

that bike as well as many outhers seem to have no way to mount a rack,so are you able to get all your stuff in a frame pack, seat pack, straped to handle bars or did you need to ware a pack or pull a trailer? as for fit, hard with a mail order bike,i can get my stand over hight but is there more to it than that? "frame is not so importain its wheels and tire presure" what does that mean? thanks again for any help

well that bike is out of stock so i'm back to looking.i'm not much of a biker yet, mostly road and only about 1000 mi. a year but i have the ultralite backing dialed in pretty good and i want to try the divide this summer but i need a bike to start building my kit around. i have read that al.frames ride harsh,ti.is expensive and steel is heavy. i am hoping their are some bikepackers out there that are willing to help point an old newbie down the right path.thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to share their thoughts
