1  Forums / Bikepacking / Revelate Sweet Roll or Harness? on: January 24, 2013, 04:25:54 PM
Looking to start accumulate some gear for a bike packing trip in 2013.  I'm now thinking about the handlebar bag.  What is the general consensus - go with the integrated Revelate Sweet Roll, or use the Harness with a dry bag?  I don't have a dry bag currently, but I do probably have various semi-waterproof stuff sacks that would fit in the Harness.  Both look to carry about the same weight, Harness would be more modular, but more expensive if I buy a true dry bag.

2  Forums / Question and Answer / Old style Madden packs for newbie bike packing setup? on: January 03, 2012, 06:35:50 PM
I am planning on taking my first bike packing trip this summer.  This will be a total new entry to bike packing for me, so I am trying to keep the initial costs down.  Also, to kind of ease in to it, I will be doing a trip to several 10th Mountain Huts in CO, so don't need cooking equipment or shelter.  My question is about bags:  I have several Madden packs from my previous bike tours many years ago.  These are the kinds that attached to Blackburn racks mounted on a touring bike, hardtail MTB, etc. and I have used them for several tours.  What would be the negative of using a set of these on a rear rack, with a more modern bike packing seat or handlebar bag to add to the storage?  Perhaps not the most stable, but would this work for a beginner setup to get me out on the trail?

Thanks!
Steve
