Forums / Question and Answer / Ortlieb Ultimate5 GPS case and the Garmin Montana - Will they cooperate?
|

I've yet to purchase my GPS device, but as it stands now, I'm fairly certain I'm going to go with the Garmin Montana, probably the 650 model (camera, no Topo maps). I'm just trying to figure out how I'll position it on my handlebars so I can actually use it while I'm on my bike. To that end, I'm considering the Ortlieb Ultimate5 Plus and its GPS cover.
The dimensions on the GPS cover are 6.5" (width) by 4.3" (height) by 0" (depth). The dimensions on the Montana are 5.7" x 2.9" x 1.4", suggesting that IF it fits, it's going to be pretty tight. I'm hoping someone can tell me for certain that it will fit, go for it, or maybe one of you knows of a better solution I could consider?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Alas, having spoken with two of the sales floor employees (one in the GPS section, one in bikes), nobody seems to even be aware of the existence of this trail.
I wonder what kind of shape it's in today?

I checked their website, and was sad to see the last update I could find on the site was their newsletter from November 2005. Nevertheless, I live in San Diego, and I'm very interested in checking out this trail, probably after I get a GPS. I'll be asking about this trail at REI when I get there later this week, too, so if I learn anything, I'll be sure to pass it along.

Check the gear reviews on this website for GPS/Navigation, and you'll find TopoFusion GPS Software at the top of the list. It's free to try, and though I haven't obtained a GPS device to actually play around with the routes I've mapped out with it, it's pretty nice to work with.

Forums / Question and Answer / Anybody using the Garmin Montana?

I'm shopping for a good GPS unit for my bike for use both off and on roads, and I'm just looking for some feedback, especially from those of you who may have had experience with previous Garmin products (i.e., are the older units more reliable? If you're doing a lot of traveling, is the added capacity of the Montana particularly helpful? et cetera).
Thanks!
