Bikepacking T-shirts!  http://www.zazzle.com/white_bikepacking_bike_on_black_t_shrit_shirts-235696261166586612

My wife is a graphic designer and made me a sweet shirt a few months ago and now has them for sale online. She made a vector graphic straight from a photo of my tour divide bike from 2013. Don't want to be too spammy here but thought this might interest some of the folks on this forum.  Zazzle.com runs specials every now and again so you can get good deals when they come around!  Happy Trails!
7  Forums / Classifieds / FS: Salsa WoodChipper Bars SRAM Apex Shifters Avid BB5 Road Brake Complete Setup on: August 27, 2014, 01:20:13 PM
I have a setup from my old Fargo frame that I sold individually, basically Bars, Brakes, Shifters and Bar tape all setup.  I could sell the parts individually as well but thought maybe someone was interested in the setup.  My frame was a medium so that gives you an idea on cable length. Here's what I have:

Salsa Woodchipper Bars - narrower width
SRAM Apex 2x10 shifters
Avid BB5 Road Brakes w/ rotors
Orange Bar Tape
Brake Cable and housing

*No Shifter cables or housing

I'm asking $250 for everything.  I can sell individually as well.

PM me if interested or respond to this post with questions.

Yes, Scott Morris emailed me to confirm that you do in fact need a subscription through SPOT, and you need the basic service and tracking ($150 per year).  This is totally separate from Trackleaders but you need the services from SPOT in order to be tracked by Trackleaders.  Hope that clears it up and will help others with the same questions!  headbang

Thanks Bobm.  Yes, I'm just signing up through trackleaders and they ask for a "Spot Shared Link Page URL" which I think you have to have a subscription through SPOT in order to get that page.  Bummer, another $100! haha

If you're using your own spot do you still need to pay the $100 yearly fee for Spot Basic Services?

Thanks BobM!  Good to know.  Right now all that pavement seems boring and horrible but I'm sure once I'm there, pavement will seem, oh so sweet!

There are 2 optional and 1 mandatory alternates in NM.
I'm curious about this as well.  What were the two optional re-routes? I think I remember them being optional but frowned upon in the true spirit of the divide! Smiley
17  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Shifter cable routing on: March 20, 2013, 06:27:00 PM
So I checked in at the bike shop and they showed me a really nice thing about not having full length housing!  Being able to wipe the cable clean, blow out the ferrels and then apply a little lube to the cable.  Since the sections of housing are so short it doesn't cause as much friction.  If you get dirt in your full length housing, there's no way for it to get out or to reduce the friction.  Hoping this will work at least.  I'm going to give it a shot.  We just did this on my bike which I thought probably needed new cable and housing and now its shifting great without it.   headbang

My bike (salsa el mariachi) is NOT setup to run full length cable housing.  I think there would be benefits to having full length housing but not really sure.  What do people think for Tour Divide?  Full length to keep more dirt/grit out or does having the cable exposed and less housing create less friction?

I think I could run full housing and just zip tie the cable and also run it through the velcro attachments on my frame bag.  Not sure how that would work on the front derailleur though.

Any thoughts?

Anyone come across any odd shaped bladder/water bags out their? I want a "corner" shape. I am finding it hard to fit 3 ounce standard bladder in my Salsa frame bag (medium) it sort of takes up both compartments. So I am considering cutting holes in the frame bag to keep the bottle cages instead and still be able to load stuff around it, or find some odd shaped bladders?

I have this pack http://shop.camelbak.com/2012-charge-lr/d/1091_cl_714 but I can't find a picture of the bladder.  It sits in the lower part of this pack, only 2 liters but its triangular shaped.  If you watch the video on the website, you can see what it looks like.

I was super happy with these.

http://www.rei.com/product/688268/rocky-gore-tex-oversocks-socks

Never properly tested them before but they were amazing. I wore summer weight wool socks for 99.9% of the ride, then in wet conditions I'd slip these on over top. Completely waterproof until you have water run in over the tops. I had pretty good luck in the flathead with my rain pants overlapping the gortex socks, which are fairly tall as well. The nice part is they breath quite well, I could leave them on comfortably until about 14 degrees C. Maybe my best piece of clothing. They are very thin, comfortable, no need to up size your shoes but they are only just stretchy enough to get on. You need to buy the exact size. Sizing seems to be quite precise, I wear size 9, that's what I bought, fit is just right with a pair of light socks underneath.

I've been looking at and hearing a lot about Goretex Socks.  Do they also add some warmth?  Or just rain protection?  Would you bring these instead of wind/water proof overbooties?  Thanks!
