I used an 8 oz. bivy (brand is escaping me, but it's a good one), on my PCT hike last year. I carried a tarp with me the whole way as well. Being wet over an extended period of time, even in warm weather, is asking for big trouble.

I used a GoLite Ponchotarp for the early stages, then a Yama Adventure Gear cuben fiber tarp...less than 7 oz., loads of protection. If you want to go light, look into cuben for sure.

The E blankets rip like a man who'd had too many beans. Also condensation is terrible, there's really no breathability. Stay away. Smiley

Hi everyone!

Dug here, although my PCT trail name this last year was 'Rawhide." Smiley

I'm newer to the whole idea of packing up a bicycle and hitting the trails for an extended period of time, and was planning on doing the GDR this summer, but my plans got changed. I'm not going to be riding a bamboo recumbent across the US instead, camping 90% or more of the time. (the change had to do with the 'mission' of the ride, so to speak, but I'm looking forward to the GDR in a year or so hopefully!)

I get excited seeing everyone's bikes geared up and looking beautiful shiny or beautifully muddy. I'll have a picture of my bike up as soon as I get it built & put together.

Glad to be here! Smiley

Hey everyone,

Was wondering if there were any spare parts floating around that someone would want to donate (even loan?) for a good cause.

I'll be riding the GDR this summer to help bring awareness to a cause I'm pretty passionate about, human trafficking. I hiked the PCT last year for it, and thought taking on the GDR would be the next best step. Parts to flesh out my frame will be the most expensive part of my trip, and I was hoping someone here might have something to spare, or at least sell at a good price.

I'll be riding a handcrafted bamboo mountain bike frame, hoping to outfit it with the following:

[] 29's
[] Fork w/ shocks
[] Disc brakes
[] 20 tooth front chainring (?)
[] 40" flatscreen TV
[] clip in pedals
[] Derailler

OK, the flatscreen was to see if you were sleeping Wink

My "dream list" is on my website, but I am more realistic than dreamy, and closer to the poverty line than I am to living in Trump Towers. Anything that will get me closer to the goal of actually getting on the trail in July would be incredibly helpful.

Blessings,

Dug

Is your bike still for sale?

Thanks!
