I saw people bend the rules. Its on them, not me. When I rolled in to antelope wells only one thing was on my mind... "Hell yeah!"

great discussion here. On 2013 I saw some grey areas but nothing rule breaking by racers. I never heard of anyone skipping any hard parts, that's a little disconcerting that someone skipped Richmond Peak... for all the hell I went through up there (late at night, covered in snow, nearly slid off the mountain, a forest fire from freak lightning)... it was an experience I'll never forget!

I have the Shimano Dynamo hub... rounding out 4500 miles on it, still works like a dream.

What nick said!
I got all wrapped up in gear and in the end before I did the Tour Divide I went with:
"things that are simple" "things that are sturdy" "things that could act as two things" (a jacket can also be a pillow)

AZT, I saw some on the Tour Divide. I ran a whiskey 7 fork for a while and loved it but when I moved to my Niner SIR I had to get a niner fork for compatibility. Both forks gave some but still didn't make for a comfortable ride over the washboards.

I like the macguyver bike! As far as weight, see if you can make one thing do two things. Like a compression sack stuffed full of clothes makes a helluva pillow and a waterproof sock in a pinch.
