I think I registered? I filled in the form prior to this post coming out about the updates (was trolling the site for updates) but haven't received a confirmation email.

Joey,
The moment look like a sweet set-up. The website says 30oz weight. Have you weighed yours? Just curious what the actual weight comes in at. Thanks.

I'm not Joey but I bought a Moment for use on CTR this year. Mine weighed 31oz on my scale, which given potential calibration error, is close enough to the spec'd weight to make me happy.

I will add that given the multiple rainy days I saw on CTR this year, the comfort the Moment provided relative to the 1oz weight increase over my bivy was well worth it.

I want to give a big shout out for Jason Osborn.  We crossed paths several times. After racing down from Kokomo Pass in a rain storm Jason offered us a spot to sleep near him at Camp Hale.  We were very grateful.  The last time I saw him was at the Avalanche TH as he passed us while we were drying clothes out.  I know if I had tried to ride all the way to Durango I would be well behind Jason.   The truth is I don't think I would be able to make the complete distance in one try unless I was touring.  This time I rode as hard as I could everyday.  It seems six days may be my limit.  I had real trouble eating while on the trail and by day 5 1/2 I was bonking.  This will be something I need to work out for future rides.  I discovered I like going to bed early and
starting to ride again about 3 am. I would rather ride knowing it is getting lighter instead of darker.  Riding for 18 hours every other day seems very doable for me.  I have lots of experience with 24 hour solo races so this may be a benefit.
Since riding the complete trail in one try is probably over my head next year maybe I will start in Durango and stop at Hwy 50.  Then I would have at least ridden all the sections.
I had a fantastic time and got my Colorado fix for another year. Now to dream of 2013.
I hope three other racers ( Walt, Berry, and Jason) who did not have a spot were able to finish.  The last time I saw them was at Mt. Princeton.
Congratulations to all the riders who started.  Attempting the challenge makes you all a winner.
Special congratulations to Jefe, Ethan, Jesse.

Thanks Wendy!

It was a pleasure to ride with you too.

And Thanks to all those that were watching my dot and rooting me on to the finish.

some thoughts and photos of my CTR experience are here:

Cross posting from "trip planning" section.

This is most of the route that Erin posted about above.

------------------
Los Padres Corridor 5/18 - 5/20/2012

The ride this weekend was great. Weather was cooler than I expected but made for great riding.

We skipped Bates and started out of Aliso Canyon so we could do the singletrack out of Hog Pen camp up to Sierra Madre road. It meant we got 5 more miles in and my wife had less dirt road to shuttle us on.

Good water abounds on this route right now.

We camped at Big Pine on Saturday, it's quite the steep hike-a-bike down to the campsite off the road but beautiful, with a good nearby spring.

Thanks for the information!

I do ride Romero on occasion but during the week is more difficult due to work/commuting. We should totally link up for a local bikepacking trip, as most of my friends bailed I was only able to have one guy follow through on the trip with me.

It's effectively the same route you posted in the 2-3 day SoCal Routes thread.

The main difference is the ride start; we will drive up Bates Cyn Rd, from the 166 to Sierra Madre Rd, then start riding from the gate at McPherson Peak, instead of your route up Big Pine Rd from Ventucopa. Although after talking with the Ranger's office, it seems the road might not be passable all the way to the gate so we'll just get dropped off and ride from wherever we can.

Super old (but cool) Dirt Rag link about the ride: http://www.dirtragmag.com/printrag/corridor

A small group of friends and I are leaving Friday afternoon for a weekend run (Fri-Sun) on the Los Padres Corridor.

We'll be leaving Goleta around 2PM. Anyone interested in joining us, just reply to this thread.
