Still can't comprehend how George did that route in 2 days / 6 hours. I would have thought this time of year it was very wet and overgrown. Did you guys end up modifying the route?
Here is the route we ended up doing. A little more paved road than I wanted, but it did involve a serious single track in the middle of the night so we got some adventure in.
I have been using Adze (http://kobotsw.com) for simple GPS work on my Mac but still rely on TopoFusion for the heavy lifting. Adze can quickly break the route into different tracks or reduce your points.
A few buddies and I are planning on heading out the last week of July but only have 5-6 days to ride. We were thinking of hitting Willow Creek, White Cloud and then heading back via the Lowman cutoff. Looks like this is about 375miles and 54k feet of climbing. Do you think this is possible in the time we have available for a couple east coasters ;-)
Great work Dave, this is really exciting to see. Ryan, Grayson and myself are interested and I have been trying to drum up a little more interest in Burlington. Ryan just stitched together our photos from our xVt trip and I am hoping to have a trip report posted in the next week or so. We ended up making it about 300 miles and clocked 30k ft of vertical and I can attest to the epic nature of the trip, I am still sore ;-)
Great Post! I have been trying to ease my daughter into longer trips and we are gearing up for our first overnight. There are some great ideas in here. Thanks for sharing.
I recently purchased a 2012 Salsa Fargo Ti and looking to try it out on some nice VT dirt. I did a nice 50 mile loop today leaving from Shelburne heading out to Huntington via Sherman Hollow road then back around using the Cross VT trail, then up Governor Chittenden Rd but there was way too many paved roads and traffic for my liking. Been reading the forums looking for some ideas and was hoping someone could point me in a new direction.
