Any thoughts on what the finishing time needs to be to be considered "Racing" the divide? When does the journey just become fast touring? 

Sounds like a great race! I live in Chico and would love to have a race this close to home. I'd be game for giving a hand on route connections and other logistics if needed.

There's a chance that I will have 2 weeks off from work right around the first of the year. I live in Northern California and was thinking of doing some bike packing. Any ideas of good routes that time of year? I don't mind if its a few day drive to get there. Any thoughts are welcomed.

In regards to not having the money for an $80 solar device, I'm not sure how well or efficient the device would work but I'm sure you'll burn through that much in gas station batteries and have nothing to show for it on the next trip.

On the money topic, how much cash should you carry in the states? Is it ever needed or does plastic always get the job done?

Anybody have experience with the Garmin GPSMAP 60cx. Costco has it for $220 and I just got my rewards card there so I thought I might give it a try. Any thoughts are welcome.

While were on the topic of Jackets, how would the Mica stack up against the Showers Pass Elite 2.0. The weights higher but nothing seems to match it's breathability. Is the extra weight/Cost worth it? Any thoughts?

Thanks Dave... About how much fabric do I need for a frame bag. I do have an XL frame and I know there are some variables but just looking for a ball park number. Also, with zippers, straps and such, whats the average weight. Withen reason, I'm trying to go as light as possible.

Any thoughts on using rip stop nylon for a frame bag? I'm more concerned about weight and cost than having something that will last forever. At $6/yard is it worth trying?
